Eapen MATHEW Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Jan. 19 to Jan. 20, 2017.
MATHEW, Eapen
January 5, 1946 – January 14, 2017
Eapen Mathew born January 5, 1946 peacefully passed away on January 14, 2017 at the tender age of 71 years. Born in Kerala, India, as the son of Dr. M.J. Mathew and Mariamma Mathew. He is the third oldest of nine living siblings. Eapen continues to be loved dearly by his wife Mary Mathew and his two children Lincy and Linita. Eapen was a gentle soul who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life – gardening, reading, writing, and going for walks. He spoke very little, but when he spoke, everybody stopped to listen. He was an educator at heart and spread his knowledge wherever he went. While in India, he received a double Master's degree in Economics and English, teaching as a professor at the University of Bopal. In 1978, Eapen travelled across the seas to Newfoundland to marry his soul mate with whom he would share 38 wonderful years. Upon moving to Calgary, together they would build a small tight-knit community of friends turned family. Eapen Mathew was a parishioner at St. Peter's Anglican Church for 35 years. He devoted many years to the Bible Study Fellowship Men's Program as both student and leader. Eapen thoroughly enjoyed his involvement with Calgary Toastmaster's in which he earned several awards including the highest achievement of DTM in 2006. He volunteered much of his time in schools and around the community, always lending a helping hand to those in need. Eapen, a proud Calgarian, was awarded for his volunteer efforts through the office of Immigration Services. Eapen's inspirational soul, pure heart and humble nature will be missed and cherished among all those who were blessed to have loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at St. Peter's Anglican Church (903-75th Ave SW) on Saturday January 21, 2017 at 11:30 am. Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter's Anglican Church (903-75th Ave SW) on Saturday January 21, 2017 at 1:00 pm. Eapen will be laid to rest at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Eapen's family through www.evanjstrong.com. By donating to The Canadian Diabetes Association (telephone: 1-800-226-8464; website: www.diabetes.ca), together we can continue on Eapen's legacy of generous acts of service. A special thank you to the Rockyview ICU medical staff for their loving care and support during Eapen's stay. Arrangements in care of EVAN J. STRONG FUNERAL SERVICES. (403) 265-1199.
