EARL CHISHOLM Obituary

Earl James Chisholm, age 89, was born January 28, 1921 in Decatur, Texas and passed away September 24, 2010 in New Braunfels, Texas. Preceding him in death are his father, James Henry Chisholm and mother, Mary Margaret Wolfe Chisholm, brother, John W. and sisters, Florence M. McCullah and Helen C. Holstead.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Marie Compton Chisholm, his three sons and their wives James Edward and Joan of Wimberley, Texas; Michael John and Rozan of Carrollton, Texas; and Steven Earl and Vickie of Carrollton, Texas; grandchildren, Amanda and husband Matt Hamilton, Maggie and husband Jimmy Abbott, Adam, Carrie, Michael and Jesse. Also, he is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Earl attended schools in Electra, Texas and Wichita Falls, Texas. After high school graduation and before the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Navy and served until the end of WWII. He reached the rank of Chief Quartermaster, serving in the Pacific on the cruiser, Indianapolis, for five of the six years he served. His patriotism for his country was boundless and continued throughout his life.
After leaving the Navy, Earl received his Master's Degree in Geology from Texas Tech University and while there he met and married Evelyn in 1948. He worked for Texas oil companies in Abilene, Midland, Houston, Tyler and back to Midland, where they retired in 1978 and then moved to New Braunfels.
The family would like to thank the medical personnel of Eden Hill Communities for all of their loving care and attention they gave to Earl and his family.
Public visitation will begin 6:00 PM Monday at Zoeller Funeral Home with the family present to receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the Eden Hill Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 PM in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Steve, My heart goes out to your family and freinds who knew your dad. It's hard to say good bye to those you love, but take comfort in knowing your dad is in a much better place and will always be looking after you, from above and from inside your heart. Safe travels for you and all your family as they make it home.
