Earl Coburn Richardson, 84, of Hebron, died peacefully at his home on May 1, 2011, with family and devoted dog, Gracie, by his side. Born on March 17, 1927, in Pocatello, Idaho, he was the son of Wilma Richardson and Earl Coburn. He is survived by his wife, Judith; daughter, Beth Rae; brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Lois Isaac; nephew and niece, Bryan and Charity Isaac; niece, Tracy Isaac; and three great-nephews, Matthew and Jacob Isaac, and Brandon Laird; as well as loving family member, Margaret Curry. A retired research microbiologist for Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, he authored 33 papers and initialed patent applications covering anti-radiation drugs, aids vaccine development, early histocompatibility recognition, effects of drugs of abuse on cell transformation, the delivery of drugs to the skin and the bio-compatibility of plastics used in prosthesis and therapy. Mr. Richardson also worked as a bacteriologist for the National Canners Association, as an immunologist, producing vaccines for the Texas State Health Department, and taught bacteriology at Mississippi State College. He was an U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a 2nd Lt. in the Air Force Reserve. He was fond of Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and trained and successfully competed with them in field trials and hunt tests. He leaves his Chesapeakes, Harley and Piper. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, June 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Bounds Funeral Home, on E. Main Street in Salisbury, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, 909 South Schumaker Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804.
