Earl Swanigan Obituary

Earl King Swanigan was born on January 14, 1964, to Collier and Lorine Swanigan. He confessed Christ at an early age. He was united in holy matrimony to Marcella Hurst Swanigan.

During Earl’s lifetime, he enjoyed drawing, painting, and helping others. He was also an artist of New York. Earl departed his life on January 5, 2019, at Berkley Medical Center, in West Virginia.

Earl leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Marcella Swanigan; children, Angel Faye Swanigan, Keanu Swanigan all of Hudson, New York and James (Martika) Swanigan of Albany, New York; six grandchildren, DeVon James Swanigan, Makiyla Swanigan, Eben Eli Alce, Georgia Chrisette White, Quelese Swanigan, and Landon Swanigan all of New York; parents, Collier and Lorine Swanigan; eight siblings, Jeanette (Johnny) Cockrell, Collier Jr. (Princina) Swanigan, Victor Swanigan, Jerry (Michelle) Swanigan, Coretta Swanigan, Micheal Swanigan, Martin Swanigan, and Angel (Julius) Wilson all of Columbus, MS; nine nephews, eight nieces, twenty great nieces and eleven great-nephews. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Mr. Swanigan's Cat Art, featured by Sheila Bridges in Elle Decor magazine August 2020 edition, inspired me to create a series: Paris Flea Market Catwalk based on his black cat very stylized in a1970's dress on a red background. Earl always made me laugh. He had a sweetness and generosity and warmth you don't see often in the world. I am so sad that to hear of his death. I cried when I heard the news. I used to bring him paint, syrup buckets-things to paint on and he was always kind and a good listener. His take on life was funny and he worked hard making and selling his art. Its heartbreaking news. My condolences to his family.

Sending prayers and my condolences to Earl's family at this time. My husband an I have been devotees and supporters of Earl's work for many years. We have many of his works of art. A few of how he saw me.
Earl was truly an artist that connected with many on one's soul level. He was loved and will be missed.

I have a wall in my house that we call The Wall of Earl. It is comprised of Earl Swanigan paintings of black cats, some done on wallboard, two done on the backs of folding chairs. I love his work and enjoyed his cheerful personality. He will live on through his art and will never be forgotten in Hudson, NY. Sincerest sympathy to his family and friends.

Earl is a shining light to all he touched with his bright spirit. Hudson, New York will be forever be indebted to Earl and his gift of positivity he brought and continues to bring us through his art. I am blessed to have known him. He was a humble human being an inspiration to us all. My greatest sympathies to his family and especially his children. With much love and great sadness.
