Earle Grueskin, 79 CARLSBAD -- Earle Grueskin, 79, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2009. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa, son of Esack and Matilda Grueskin. Earle graduated from Northwestern University in 1951 with a degree in Economics. He worked in Chicago for CBS radio and later for broadcast work on both radio and TV in Sioux City. He was president and general manager of Dividend Bonded Gas, until they were sold in 1981. He worked for Rosenthal Foods before becoming the 17th employee for Gateway Computers in 1988 as corporate director of facilities and construction until his retirement in 1997. Earle was elected and served on the Sioux City City Council from 1964-71. He was mayor for a two-year term during 1968-69. He was elected and served on the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors from 1982-96. Earle retired in 1997. He had many passions during his life, including politics, music, theater and travel. Going to movies was a deep love of Earle's and family and friends would get his recommendations for the best ones. Earle also served many different community organizations - Community Theater, Sioux City Arts Center, Morningside College, Security National Bank, Sioux City Chamber of Commerce, Alzheimer's Association and Saturday in the Park. Earle will be remembered for his sharp wit, his candor and integrity, and his wonderful sense of humor. He was a big sports fan; his favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals. He married Joanne Franzen in New York City in 1961. He is survived by his wife; five children, Tom and his wife, Meredith Grueskin of Carlsbad, Calif., Jim and his wife, Maggie Grueskin of Houston, Texas, Pat Grueskin of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kathy and her husband, Doug Chisholm of Arvada, Colo., and Dennis and his wife, North Grueskin of Campbell, Calif., nine grandchildren, Esack, Zoe, Bella, Ryley, Gunnar, Birgen, Fraser, Zuzu and Race; his brother, Harold and wife, Rosie Grueskin of Denver, Colo.; and his sister, Doris and husband, Eddie Sherman of Bloomington, Minn.; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, January 18, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 424 Via de Valle, Solana Beach, Calif. 92075. Ph 858-755 2855.
