Linda, Dean, and Jeff
With our deepest sympathy. We were so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. We have alot of memories of the good times with the "Lads" with both of you. We had the pleasure of meeting up with Ed in Portland and Prince Albert at a few hockey games. It was so nice to see his happy, friendly, smiling face, and someone we knew. We always had a good visit. May he rest in peace.

Dear Linda, Jeff and Dean,
The good memories go all the way back to the Calgary Wrangler days. Ed was a great friend to my father and I know how highly dad thought of him. There was never any shortage of laughter when the two of them were together. This held true even this past January when they were in Tom Baker at the same time - they were both joking despite their conditions. I can truly empathize with what you are all going through. Your in my thoughts and prayers. Cherish the memories.

Dear Linda, Jeff and Dean
On behalf of my family I would like to express our heartfelt sympathy in Ed's passing. He was a man I had the honour of knowing for over 15 years and he was a person whom was truly not only a great hockey man but also a great person. The hockey community has lost a great friend but his legacey will live on as a result of his great work.
I guess we can take hommage that in a dressing room in Canada are the words "FROM THESE FAILING HANDS I PASS THE TORCH" and with Ed he has passed the torch to you.
Sincerely

Our thoughts are with you all at this difficult time. I have a lot of great memories of Ed from the various ballparks in and around Calgary - He was a great guy, always with a story to tell or a tip to give out. He will be missed in all of the circles he was a part of.

Jeff, Dean and Linda,
Please know that your family has been in my thoughts . My prayers go out to you at this difficult time in your lives. I only met Ed a couple of times over the last few years but know of his lengthy commitment to the WHL and more recently the Kootenay Ice. My daughter, Janine, had the pleasure of working for the Ice for three years and was treated well and I know those teachings
strickled down from "Big Ed." He fought the good fight and now can rest in peace in The Big Boardroom knowing his sons are well placed to follow his footsteps.

We knew each other in high school and I was one of the first to meet you in September, 1956 at STCI. There were a lot of laughs and enjoyable times. We renewed our friendship as we watched your son Jeff and my son David play hockey together on an outdoor rink at Harold Tatler Park on Jarvis Drive in Saskatoon. The good memories will never fade. We will miss you Ed.

Hello Linda, Jeff & Dean,
I'm so sorry to hear of Ed's passing and extend to you my deepest condolences.
Not unlike Will Klein, I too vividly remember visiting with Ed as he leaned back against the shirt shelves at The College Shop amid the warmth of Stu, Bill and Frank's near sometimes Barnum & Bailey atmosphere that made it all such fun to visit.
When we'd encounter each other Ed always greeted me with that smile and genuine "How are you doing Donnie".
I'll long miss Ed and share deeply in your loss.

Dear Linda,
We will always remember Ed's infectous laugh and happy demeanor. He was a leader and a good friend to many people and it has been a pleasure and privilege to know him and have him as a memorable part of our lives.
We remember fondly the trips we took together in the early days of Kinsmen and the visits we had from time to time after our families lived apart as careers sent us to different cities. Despite the fact that our lives are dimmer with his passing, our fond memories of both of you are still bright and will continue to bring us smiles.
Ed has moved on to the next great adventure.
Our condolences to you , Jeff, Dean and all the Chynoweth family.

Dean/Jeff: I wrote your Mom the other day but just wanted you to know how much I thought of your Dad. But you probably already knew that. I can't tell you how much I respected not only his friendship but also his professionalism in the 3+ decades with which I was associated with him. And the laughs! You know what I mean. If I had podium for guys who meant so much to me, Ed Chynoweth would be on it front and centre. Beyond that words can't express how much I feel for your loss. I talked to him a month ago for the last time and having lost my Dad in 1965 can't tell you how much I feel for you.

Dear Linda:
I am so sorry to learn of Ed's passing. My memory immediately goes back to your dad, Stu Lindsay, Bill Scott and Frank Szombathy at the College Shop in Saskatoon. That is where I first met Ed. His enthusiasm enveloped everyone with whom he came in contact.
He never forgot his roots. I had the good fortune of proposing Ed to the Saskatoon Kinsmen Club. He had a sense of community then and it continued throughout his life.
You have been a wonderful team, LInda, and your legacy is the testimony of your legion of friends.
You and your family have my deepest sympathy.

Linda, Jeff and Dean: We send our deepest condolences in the loss of Ed. His smile is everlasting to those who knew him plus the chatting he did with those at hockey games. Always looked forward to seeing Ed, Jeff and Dean and Linda at all the Wrangler games we attended and our chats about the billets we had. Keep up your work with hockey Jeff and Dean. You are in our thoughts! May the Lord comfort all of you.

To Linda, Jeff & Dean and families..
We first met Ed when our son Rob McKechney played for Doug Sauter's Calgary Wranglers. Since then during my coaching time w/ the Estevan Bruins, Ed had given me some advice and support. The professional way that Ed ran the Western Canada League(which included such renegades as Scotty Munroe & Ernie McLean, who I followed at the helm of the Estevn Bruins) will always be remembered.
At about the same time I met Jeff who I felt was management material . Dean, I watched play hockey when I scouted for Medicine Hat.
I have not met you, Linda but somebody did a fine job of raising your two sons!
Hockey in general has lost a a fine supporter and builder. He will be missed.

Dear Chynoweth Family,
I can only reiterate (as many have in the guestbook) what a tremendous influence Ed had on my life. Ed always put others first - especially the kids - and everyone was important. His guidance was always honest and thoughtful. I try everyday to live up to Ed's standard of how to treat others. He is now smiling down on us from Heaven, and we all know that familiar smile. He probably has the angels in stitches with the stories he can tell. Ed's legacy lives on in all of us and we are all so lucky to know the entire Chynoweth family.
May God bring you peace and comfort,

Dear Linda, Jeff, Dean and families. It is with our deepest sympathy that we hear of Ed's passing. Ed meant so much to so many people. Dear Jeff, Dean, and the fammily and friends of Big Ed Chynoweth. We know it's hard to take right now but with the strength of all those around you that loved Ed and everything he stood for, you will make it through one day at a time.
Time eases the pain and let's you remember him the way you all should, and not just grieve in pain for him and your loss.
We are so sorry to hear about the passing of "Big Ed" back in Cranbrook. I sit here knowing in my heart that he was fighting his condition for quite a while now, but still I just cant believe the man that did so much for so many throughout his life has been taken so early in his own life.
He has done so much for the small little town of Cranbrook BC and will be forever missed by all the people here he has touched and all the fans who never knew him. His big smile on his face walking around the rec plex will never leave our memories. He loved it here and you could see it every night he was here.
Knowing Ed, he has something big already on the go wherever he may be, helping someone out, or making some needed changes to something to benefit all involved.
Thanks big ED, for everything. We miss you already. GO ICE GO!!!

To the Chynoweth family. I was saddened to learn of ed's passing. I met Ed when he made trips to Portland to meet with Brian Shaw. Dear Linda, Dean, Jeff and families,
Our thoughts are of you, and our prayers are with you all.
We were watching the Flames/San Jose hockey game via satellite T.V. when Ed's picture came on the screen. A sad way to learn of his passing, but a sure sign of the high esteem in which he is held.
May it bring you some comfort to hear from so many who knew him and loved him and admired the wonderful man that he was (we among them).
We leave tomorrow for home but will be thinking of you (as we make our way back to Calgary) and in the days and weeks ahead.

To Mrs Chynoweth, Jeff and Dean my deepest thoughts and prayers go out to and your families at this time of sorrow. I have many fond memories of our time playing hockey back in Calgary Jeff and one story that I remember to this day is the day I asked your Dad "Mr Chynoweth how can I become an NHL hockey player and he response was "Brent work hard, be a team player and probadly the one thing that I should of done but never did was stop and turn back instead of making a big loop to go back the other way and also to stop skating bull-legged. Remenber the good times you had with your father and take pride in knowing that your Dad had a big role in many peoples lives who went on to greatness. Best wishes.

My heartfelt thoughts are with you Linda, Jeff, Dean and your Families. Cherish the memories of Ed in these next few difficult days, weeks and months and that will hopefully give you strength to move forward. When I think of Ed, my memories of this Family and Lake Bonavista Rec. Center come to mind. We made many friends there and hold fond memories of them and especially the "Chynoweth" family. I last met Ed in the spring of 2006 in Lake Bonavista Mall...we stood and had a chat and he spoke of our family and the time we devoted to hockey in the community...a recognition from a Great Man. Valerie and I were deeply saddened by your loss, even though we knew Ed had been ill for awhile.
Please understand that my friendship with Ed goes all the way back to when he was about 13 -- he offered to be my assistant at a Track Meet and I never forgot his attention to his task. He continued to do the same thing the reast of his life.
The WHL and the CHL can reflect upon the true professionalism that Ed brought to Canadian Junior Hockey. He was truly a great leader and visionary. I know that he will want you Jeff and Dean to carry on the Chynoweth tradition and continue to seek better things for the League.
We want you to know our thoughts will be with you during the days and weeks ahead.
