So sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He was a very special man! Always had fun bowling on the Saturday morning kids league at the bowling alley. He and Dad always had great adventures too. Prayers to all of you! God Bless!

Ed would have Tammy and I serve/clean tables a bit on Friday night leagues. He paid us in candy. We had a blast and he was always appreciative.

Oh my gosh. I remember my parents and grandparents bowling there and Ed would hire me for the night to help clean off tables and take food to people and stuff like that. He was so fun. And Margie and I would play too.

I met Ed working at R.L.Craft in Denison in 1985. I left Craft in 1992 but managed to run
into Ed off and on over the years. Always the same one of nicest people I have ever met. I roofed Ed and Bonnie's house in 1998. I was lucky to see him just a couple of
weeks ago when I was working in Dunlap, he had just got out of the hospital and
was having dinner with his family at the Dairy Sweet. I always thought of him as a
friend and it was an honor to know him. He was one of the best that I had the privilege of knowing. My heart goes out to his family because you know what you
have lost. God got a good one, til we meet again my friend.

I have many fond memories of the family. My favorite memory that I share to others to thus day is, I worked at their bowling alley in high school and one of my duties was massaging his feet. I know, it was a strange part of my job but it makes me laugh when I think of Ed. He was a great boss! ❤

RIP dear Ed. I just know that Bonnie, Ray and Ella Mae were waiting for you at the pearly gates and you are all catching some of the biggest salmon right now!!! You were always such a good friend to Ray and Ella. We had many talks about Ray when we would visit in the alley when you were on your way home. I will miss those stories!!! Give mom and dad a big hug for me and now, go catch some more fish!!!!!

When I told my children today that Ed passed away tears flowed and then they all shared stories of Ed with each other..."Ed gave me a dollar for the church bake sale!" "Ed gave me change at Halloween!" "Ed gave me shark teeth!" My heart overflowed that my children also loved Ed just as much as I did! I grew up in Bonnie and Ed's bowling alley. Seriously! :) I was so spoiled with love by them I think I probably was jealous when their own grand-kids came along! :) Bonnie and Ed would keep Cheetos on hand for all us kids when we would walk across the street for a visit and Ed would give us girls a dollar to 'style his hair' or to rub his feet! I never recall seeing Bonnie and Ed down....only joyful. Even through life's trials. Maybe we all share the same Ed stories..."Ed gave me a dollar." "Ed gave me a hug." "Bonnie and Ed gave us love and joy!!" Mike, Margie, Mark and Susie our hearts are heavy with yours but we pray that you are comforted in knowing that Ed is now reunited with the love of his life and that they both are living fully with our Lord and Savior! Now when it thundering and lightning my children will know exactly which two angels are bowling up there! Love to you all!- Missy

What a wonderful trip with Ed Gunia, beginning with a south Omaha 27 year old business owner mixing with a 13 year old Dunlap kid who needed a job(spending money). Ed and I would wait tables, mix drinks, fix pinsetters and then close the bowling alley and head to Larson's café for breakfast or the occasional trip to Defiance for some crap shoot action. After a couple of years together, Ed had a heart attack within my eyesight. His absence from 4 county lanes required me to work several hours a week plus go to school. Ed took about a month to get back to work but shortly before his return he called me to the house and gave me a check for 100 dollars and he and Bonnie told me how much they appreciated my efforts. I will never forget the feeling of having 100 dollars as well as the confidence Ed and Bonnie gave me that day. Our next event was the first fire at 4 county lanes. We worked all summer to get business ready to open in the fall and Ed made it clear there was no money for wages but plenty of breakfasts at Larson' café at midnight.(footnote on fire)Ed received an insurance settlement for the fire and 30 years later I told him the real story how the fire was started( I accidently lit a match and started the fire )and he fell off the chair laughing so hard. As I was writing this I have tears streaming down my face, thank you Gunia family for being great part of my life. The final chapter of Ed Gunia and me was this summer. I was sitting in the
Dairy Sweet with my family to include a 5 year old grandson, Ed came up to us and made a point to give my grandson 2 dollars. What a final gesture from Ed to me.

I can't claim to have known Ed well, but he, Bonnie and their bowling alley are etched into my Dunlap childhood--and, no doubt, into the memories of lots of Dunlapians. Shortly after they bought the alley, I remember spending many nights there while my parents bowled in a mixed-doubles league. Later on, Saturday mornings meant bowling in the kids' league, and eventually pairing with Bud Weis there in a father/son tournament. And in high school, the alley was an occasional dating destination.
Throughout all those years--even when my dad and I built an addition on their house--I remember both Ed and Bonnie as being nice, kind people. I'm guessing that most everybody who came in contact with them had that impression. I give my sincere condolences to the Gunia family for your loss.
