Ed Hubert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 31, 2011.
Edward Daniel Hubert, born to Edward and Lorraine Hubert of Fall River, Mass. on July 10, 1941, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother passed March 25, 2011. At his age of ten the family moved to Chicago. Ed then moved to southern California in the early 60`s. He worked the loading docks at various trucking companies in the L.A. area until returning to Chicago in the early 70`s to work for Flying Tiger Air Freight then returning to L.A. and continuing with Flying Tigers at LAX. After meeting Phyllis Hale they were married. Ed had two children from a previous marriage and Phyllis had five children. It takes a special man to take on a new wife with five children, but he was that special man. He started what is now known as Hubert`s Appliance from a one car garage in El Segued, Calif., growing to a store in Van Nuys, Calif. and then moving the family and the store to Palm Springs in 1978, where the business had been operated by Ed and his family till present. Ed was preceded in death by his mother and father; and two of Phyllis`s children, Ralph Caldwell and Eddie Stevenson. Ed is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his son, Ed Jr. and Wendy of Murrieta, Calif.; daughter, Jeniece Walker and Tim of Bellingham, Wash.; stepdaughter, Sharon McAdams and Paul of Cathedral City, and Pam Alquist and Kip of Palmyra, Penn.; stepson, Jim Rooker of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Crystal and David Hubert Rebecca Cormier, Josh and Kai Caldwell, Chandra Smith, Haley and Kenny Alquist and Alexis McAdams; great-grandchildren, C.J., Emma, Hunter and Kaylynn; four brothers, Robert of La Porte, Ind., and Norman, Donald and Raymond of the Chicago area. A celebration of life for Ed will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday April 1, 2011 in the chapel at Forest Lawn on Ramon Road in Cathedral City. We the family, suggest in lieu of flowers, go out to dinner with someone you care for and remember Ed with a smile.

What can I say about Ed? There is so much that can be said. But for me it would be laughter. As the kid who grew up across the street, the Huberts house was like my second home. Ed was one of those people who once you met him you wanted to know him, you wanted to be his friend. He was funny and very quick with a comment which would make you burst out with laugher.

I also remember fondly "hearing" him read his paper. With his grunts of of approval, disappointment or joy. I don't know why I remember this but it remains with me to this day. And every time I catch myself making a noise while I read it still reminds me of Ed.

All and all I would like to say that for me it was a privilege and an honor to have known him. He was truly a man's man with a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Rest in peace Ed.

Well a year has gone & you are still missed as if it was yesterday! I wanted to thank you for all of the life lessons you have taught me. The best one was to always check your checking account daily, just so you always know whats going on. Thats how I found out last Christmas that we were victims of ID theft! On Saturday morning when I called in I knew that I did not have over $2500.00 in holds. Monday morning a call to the bank & the damage stopped before it got any worse! Another thing which did not make me happy, was changing a tire! There my car sat in front of the house with the back tire flat as can be & I asked you what should I do...You said "Change It", really! I thought couldn't you just help me but you were on your way to work. Well I did figure it out & I was very proud of myself. When I finally got to work with my doughnut tire, you said that you knew I would get to work one way or another. I do know how to change tires but we will keep that a secret cuz I like it when Kip has to come change mine at 4 a.m. How about a little funny story. When I was about 20 & Kip still lived across the street, we were watching tv & must have went to sleep because at 3 a.m there was a knock on the door & when Kip opened it there you stood in your blue undershorts asking "is my daughter here" haha that was priceless! You were a good dad & a even better Grandpa & you are missed by so many! We have the memories & telling stories helps the hurt. We love you always Kip, Pam Haley & Kenny!

It has now been a year since you have been gone .I miss you and love you.
I have learned a lot in this year ,about just how much money it takes to run and keep this house (our home) I always lived for the day ,just expecting everything would be ok ,and you always made it so. You worked so hard to give me everything I wanted .
I wish you had gotten that Alaska cruse you wanted to go on ,but you could never leave the business ,you were so dedicated and you made that store work for 34 years ,when most small bussiness` would fail ours made it and that was because of you and your personality and hard work . It was close to 16 years since you had taken a vacation, and I got all the trips I wanted . I would give anything to go back when you and I ran the store together I would never leave your side, I know we can`t go back so I will count the days till I will be with you again and dream of hearing you say I`ve been waiting for you darlin` ,you see he always called me darlin`..

Today on the 1 year anniversary of Grandpa leaving this earth to go on to a better place, I sit here thinking of not only how much I miss him but also of the many memories I have of him. His smile, his laugh and his jokes. One of my fondest memories (and quite funny) was knowing that every time I saw Grandpa and gave him a hug, he was going to joke about wiping his sweat on my shoulder. I never cared how sweaty he was, his hugs were the best and I miss them terribly. I know that he is with the good Lord above looking down on us and wanting us all to just be happy and know that he is no longer in pain. My kids often ask about "GG Pop" and I tell them stories of swimming, playing, Easters and Christmas'. He will forever live on in our hearts and memories and I will always pass those memories on to my children. Always in my heart, I love you Grandpa!!!

ED WAS A GOOD HARD WORKING MAN AND HAD A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR.ONE OF MY FAVORITE MEMORIES OF HIM WAS WHEN YOU HAD BEEN HERE FOR A VISIT AND AS YOU WERE LEAVING HE WAS EATING A BIG RED DELICIOUS APPLE. HE SAID THIS IS DELICIOUS,HOPE YOU DONT MIND THAT I PICKED IT OFF YOUR TREE.THAT WAS THE FIRST YEAR OUR TREE HAD PRODUCRD ANY FRUIT AND I HAD BEEN WATCHING THAT APPLE,JUST WAITING FOR IT TO GET RIPE. WE LAUGHED ABOUT THAT FOR A LONG TIME.GLAD HE ENJOYED IT AND I DIDNT MIND AT ALL.HE WAS A LOT OF FUN. HE IS MISSED BY ALL.

Grandpa,
Not a day goes by I don't think of you. I replay childhood memories and remember them like they were yesterday.I can't even put in to words of how much I miss you and wish you were still here. What i would give for one more grandpa hug to sit there with you and watch the history channel that i never learned anything from. you always brought the kid out in me. No matter how old i got i still managed to fit right under your arm for 22 years. I love you so much grandpa. you are forever a part of me and in my heart. I was one lucky girl to have a grandpa like you. i love you "big as the world"

Having had the pleasure to work with Ed the past year, I can honestly say he was one of the nicest guys I've ever known.
Always quick with a joke or a witty remark, he seemed to always be in a good mood, rarely without a big smile on his face.
Even as his health declined, he always had an upbeat attitude. You will be missed by many Mr. Hubert, rest peacefully.

Ed, it doesn't seem possible that you are gone. You provided several appliances to us through our two houses and the girl's growing up, but most of all your friendship and humor. You were a bright spot in Larry's work day and I knew I could trust you for an honest answer. Our whole family will miss you and our love and prayers go out to your family. With much love - Larry and Carol Goerz, Culver, Oregon
