Eddie "Sarge" Baranski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 25, 2025.
80 years of age and resident of Northampton, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, with his loved ones by his side. He was born in Palmerton and lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family, Country, and community.

Eddie proudly served his nation in the United States Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. During his service, he earned the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Vietnamese Service Medal, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He also trained with the 1st Marine Brigade in Hawaii and attended Guerilla Warfare School, experiences that reflected his strength, bravery, and unwavering commitment as a Marine.

A proud veteran, Eddie remained devoted to his fellow servicemen through his involvement with the VFW and Toys for Tots. His love for the Marine Corps and his community shined through in many ways-including the creation of Papa Sarge's Pierogies, a business that proudly carries his nickname and spirit.

Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Baranski; daughters Jolene Terleski (husband Jeff) and Alicia Baranski; grandchildren Conner Terleski and Alana Williams; and was an uncle to many. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who left a lasting mark on everyone he met.

Services will be 11:00 am Monday September 29, 2025 in the Gilbert Funeral Home 444 Pershing Blvd Whitehall, PA 18052, located 1 block south of the Fullerton Ave. exit of Route 22, where his viewing will begin at 10:00 am. Sgt Baranski,
Patriotic, courageous, disciplined, resilient, and loyal. He was a Marine with a can-do attitude, nothing was impossible. His van was an example of his love of the Marine Corps. Rest in peace, and we're sure you'll keep the gates of heaven secure. Semper Fi, Carl and Roz

Sarge or Eddie, as I knew him in High School in the early 60's was a friend and part of the group who spent our time together hanging out at Krex's in Palmerton.

After school he joined the Marines and his life changed after that. I vividly remember him coming home after basic, he looked so sharp in his Marine uniform. He was so proud to be a Marine.
I went into the service after that and we lost contact with each other for awhile. I met him again at the Palmerton Hospital Festival some years later and we have stayed in touch since then.
"Sarge", as he was now known by all, loved the Marines and he showed it the rest of his life. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Coplay. This year he Joined the Legion in Palmerton.

In 2010 the Palmerton United Veterans Org. decided to build a Veterans Memorial to honor all Veteran's from the Palmerton Area. This Memorial is in the Park in Palmerton. Sarge was a member of that committee.

When the PUVO decided to add a Vietnam Memorial to honor all those who gave their lives in that war, he was a member of that committee also. He gave a generous donation to purchase two benches that were placed in this area.

Sarge has two 4x6 bricks and one 10x12 block on the walkway in the Veterans Memorial plus a bench with his name on.
He has a Hometown Hero Banner Hanging in Palmerton and he humbly received a "Quilt of Valor" at a Memorial Day Service held in Palmerton.

For quite a number of years Sarge drove his "Marine Van" in the Carbon County Veterans Day Parade. He has volunteered over the years at our PUVO tent at the Palmerton Festival where he enjoyed meeting and talking with other veterans. This year not feeling so well he still showed up at the Festival. He placed his chair right next to the tent where Military items were being sold and he talked with Veterans.

Sarge and I talked about the up coming Carbon County Veterans Day Parade and he said to me, "if I can't drive the Marine Van in the parade you will".

Two weeks later Sarge left to see the Commander of us all.
Sharon, to you and your Family our Heartfelt sympathy for your loss.

My wife Judie and I met Eddie in 1968.
He was such a great human being.
He loved my two daughters like they were his own. He met Sharon and they had two daughters of their own. He had an enormous love for Sharon and his girls.
I was a Navy guy in Viet Nam; he was the Marine. Eddie and his buddy Mike once drove their motorcycles to California.
He was a free spirit. They don't make them like Eddie anymore.
We had a lot of good times together.
Will miss you Eddie,
Love you,

Ron and Judie Moser
