EDGAR, JR.
Age 70, of McMurray, who lived a full and gratifying life, died on May 22, 2002 after eight days at Washington Hospital (he had never before spent a full night in a hospital) after being diagnosed on February 1, 2002 with an incurable lung-based cancer and given 6-12 months to live. He graduated in 1953 from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy with a B.S.M.E. degree, a third assistant license to operate a vessel of any size on any body of water, and a commission as Ensign-U.S.N.R. He served two years of military service as engineering officer aboard a Navy supply ship operating in the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. Mr. Hansen joined American Standard Industrial Division as a sales engineer H.V.A.C. products at their offices in Richmond, VA, Charleston, WV and Boston, MA. He left American Standard in 1970 to join Donwil Co., as a partner in Pittsburgh, PA. He retired from Donwil on December 31, 1991 and took on a new line of work, attempting to play golf 3-4 times per week at Nemacolin Country Club. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Caryl W. Lewis; daughters, Kama H. Taylor of Partlow, VA, and Laura Johnston and husband, Bob of McMurray, son, Craig and wife, Sandie of Windham, ME; sister, Evelyn Carter of Thonotosassa, FL; uncle, Herbert Hansen of Harahan, LA; also son-in-law, Richard J. Taylor of Washington, PA and four grandchildren, Brittany and Charla Toth of McMurray and Carylanna and Pedro Bahamondes of Ithaca, NY. Mr. Hansen's brother, Tom, predeceased him in 1989.
