Edith Freeman Obituary
November 24, 1931 - March 9, 2023
Edith, a dear friend and matriarch, peacefully passed away at the age of 91. She was known for her cheerful, wise, and gracious personality. She loved adventures and collected friends throughout her life. She hitchhiked with her Dad as a child and trekked the Himalayas, explored pyramids, the Silk Road, and trails of Mt Tamalpais as an adult. She earned her college degree in Ohio and her PhD at Stanford University. Edith raised two kids with her husband Paul and found love again with Larry later in life, teaching abroad and sharing her passion for psychology and travel. Edith brought artwork to life as an integral member of the docent community at the De Young Museum. Her dedication to making the world a better place made her a mentor and friend to many. We will always cherish our conversations with her and her impact on our lives.

Ahh Edith Freeman. I am one of the many fortunate docents of the FAMSF (class of 2011) who was blessed with your knowledge and spirit and light. A sharp mind, a kind heart, a high standard of excellence. Rest in peace. You are in our hearts.

Edith, it was your warmth that welcomed me to the docent program, your mentorship that helped our colleagues through peer review, and your depth that shone through everything you did. I am fortunate that our lives intersected even for a few years. My deepest condolences to the family.
