GASTON – Edith Johnson Smith, 84, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, May 31, 2014. She was born on December 23, 1929 in Baxley, GA to the late Effie May Varnadore and Elbert Jack Johnson.
Mrs. Smith was a housewife to a World War II Veteran, William H. Smith. She was a mother to seven children; Dennis E. Johnson (Charlotte) of NC, Marjorie M. Surrency (Carl) of FL, Junior Freshour of SC, Annette Seay (Darr) of SC, Deborah Still (deceased), Julie E. Dunn (Mitchell) of SC and William E. Smith of SC Edith Laura Smith of SC. She had 15 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren and 4 great great- grandchildren as well as a sister, Velma Coker of West Columbia SC. She was a woman of God and was loved by many and will be missed by many. Everything she did was for her family and friends and was with a joyful heart and much love. She will be greatly missed. Flowers may be sent to Caughman-Harmon Funeral Home 820 West Dunbar Rd. West Columbia, SC 29170.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Chapel.
