HAVERHILL — Edith Charlotte (Keniston) Spencer, 93, of Haverhill, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at her residence surrounded by loved ones.

She was born in Groveland on July 22, 1916, daughter of the late Walter E. and Ada (Fegan) Keniston.

Edith was educated in the Groveland schools and for several years was a certified nurse assistant at Whittier Hospital.

She devoted her life to her family, raising eleven children. She was a former resident of West Newbury, but lived most of her life in Haverhill.

Edith was a member of the Haverhill Salvation Army and the Women's Home League.

She is survived by her sons, George W. and his wife Margie of Haverhill, Ronald F. of Boston, and Ralph G. of Haverhill; her daughters, Annie F. Parkhurst, Kathy and her husband Mario DiPietro, Lorna L. Whittaker and Michele Dionne all of Haverhill; sister, Margaret Cassell of Haverhill; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Walter "Skip" Spencer, Scott A. Spencer, Shirley Mehaffey, and Linda Vezina.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service on Monday at 11 a.m. at The Salvation Army, 395 Main St., Haverhill. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Groveland. An hour of visitation will precede the service on Monday from 10 to 11 at The Salvation Army. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill and Bradford. Contributions in her memory may be made to Edith Spencer Fund c/o Haverhill Bank, 100 Lafayette Square, Haverhill, MA 01830.
