Edith Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2025.
Edith Mabel Purificación Ferrucci Williams (88) passed away quietly on the night of January 20, 2025 in her apartment in Tinton Falls, NJ.

Edith was born to Jose Ferrucci and Maria Purificación Iglesias. She had a beloved half sister, Juana Rosa Francisca Grandinetti, who along with her husband, Miguel, helped raise her in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Edith was very driven, creative, resourceful, and charismatic. She attended the Buenos Aires University and received her degree in English/Spanish Public Translation.

In 1958, she began working for the United States Air Force Mission to Argentina, first as clerk/typist, before quickly moving on to a job as a stenographer. While with the Mission, she then earned a position as a translator eventually working her way up to the position of Secretary to the Department of Training.

In 1960, she was sponsored to move to the United States where she worked for American Express and was stationed at the 1964 World's Fair in NYC where she met her future husband, Frederic O. Williams. The two had a whirlwind romance (after a disastrous first date at a hockey game!) After only three months and no more dates to hockey games, Edith and Fred were engaged and married at St George's By The River Church in Rumson, NJ in 1966. Soon after being married they had two children: Fred and Heather, and the family spent many fun years together in their home in Rumson, NJ. Edith and Fred (Sr) shared many happy memories of traveling, golfing, and spending time with their wonderful friends and family. Edith made a warm, wonderful home for her family there filled with fond memories.

In 1989, the family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area until Fred Sr's passing in 1990. Edith returned to New Jersey where she made a comfortable home for herself in Little Silver. There, with the support of her cherished friends, she began to take her artistic talents from the home into the classroom and community.

She received degrees in Botanical Art and Illustration, Communication Design, Watercolor certifications and coursework from The New York Botanical Gardens in New York City. Her artwork was chosen for the cover page of her class's Graduation Program! Edith worked in the Design and Production Department at Brookdale Community College, as a freelance graphic designer for Riverside Graphics. She had several exhibitions and publications including her very own show at The New York Botanical Gardens as well as being commissioned for botanical watercolor paintings for both personal and private collections.

Through it all, she continued her great love of travel, going on many painting trips abroad learning new skills, eating great food, and meeting new friends. Through these adventures Edith has traveled to over 20 different countries.

Edith returned back to her translator roots later in life and earned her Medical Translators Certification. From 2004 thru 2020, she worked at the Parker Clinic in Red Bank, NJ as a Volunteer Community Interpreter.

She leaves behind her son, Fred (57), her daughter, Heather (53), her two grandchildren, Sage (16) and Ely (14), as well as her grand nephews, Hernan and Santi and her grand niece, Marisol, in her native country of Argentina.

Edith was a dear friend, an inspiration and a tremendous talent. Her desire to learn and achieve excellence fueled her life and art. We were fortunate to be gifted and purchase some of her magnificent botanical watercolors.
Edith was a lady wrapped in spunk, I enjoyed the years we had together. My condolences to her family and children and she drove like a bat out of hell!

The first time I met Edith was about a year ago in Arbor Terrace. I had just moved moved my aunt from yonkers to the assisted living where Edith lived. I walked up to their lunch table and it took all about a minute to see her as a very special person. She and my aunt became close. I visited 2 to 3 days a week, and still do. Edith was an extremely intellect person full of kindness. She and I sat and talked all about her life, careers, children and my aunt.

When my aunt started to do a few odd things here and there, Edith would tell me to watch closely because she was "off her rocker."
Just so funny.

I truly loved Edith very much. She confided in me and I had told her anything she needed I would do. She would hug and kiss me everytime i left and I will always remember her for her brilliance, warmth, humor and generosity.
I will miss her.
