Edmund Prout, 68, of Overdown Road, Tilehurst, will be remembered by ex-service colleagues from across the area.
Mr Prout was president of the West Reading branch of the Royal British Legion and vice president of the Reading branch of the Old Comrades of the Royal Berkshire Regiment.
He served with the TA from 1957 to 1981 with the 4th/6th Battalion, the Royal Berkshire Regiment (TA) and the Wessex Regiment.
He was also a well known figure at Brock Barracks where he served behind the bar at the Dragon Club.
Andy Padbury, chairman of the Reading branch of the Old Comrades of the Royal Berkshire Regiment, said: “Eddie was the most jovial man. He had a lot of health problems but never ever complained.
“He was always the life and soul of the party and got on well with everyone. He was extremely well known.
“I believe his health prevented him from serving in the armed forces but he was a member of the Territorial Army for most of his life.”
Mr Prout, who died two weeks ago, leaves a wife Freda, five sons and one daughter.
Son Steven Prout said: “My father was extremely well known in the West Reading area particularly among ex-service people.
“For very many years – until ill health prevented him – he was the main distributor of poppies for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.”
The funeral of Mr Prout, a retired motor parts salesman, will be held at St Michael’s Church, Routh Lane, Tilehurst, at 1pm followed by a burial at Henley Road Cemetery at 2pm.

I knew Eddie for a number of years thro' the TA Wessex Regt and have particularly fond memories of many TA Camps and still remember the good times in the WO/Sgt's Mess. He was one of the GOOD guys.

Life Goes On
If I should go before the rest of you
Break not a flower
Nor inscribe a stone
Nor when I am gone
Speak in a Sunday voice
But be the usual selves
That I have known
Weep if you must
Parting is hell
But life goes on
So .... sing as well
Thank you Eddie for being an okay bloke and brother-in-law while I was with Bob.
Rest in Perfect Peace
