Eduardo Simpson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 14, 2004.
Simpson, Eduardo Jose, M.D., 63, passed away Monday, March 8, 2004. He was a loving, caring, brilliant and generous man who had a remarkable spirit and a great joy for life and the company of family and friends. Cultured and sophisticated, he loved discussing topics ranging from history, architecture and politics to botany, zoology and medicine. Although he worked tirelessly as a physician, he always made time for those in need. He was proud of his Cuban heritage and dreamed of one day returning to a free Cuba. Born in Havana on November 11, 1940, he graduated from Columbus High School in 1958, where he excelled in academics. He was a member of the Havana Biltmore Yacht and Country Club where he enjoyed rowing. In 1960 he left Cuba for Spain where he lived for one year before coming to Miami. He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Miami, and received his Doctor of Medicine degree at Tulane University. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harvard University affiliated Boston City Hospital, and subsequently attained his Board Cerification. In the years following his residency he served honorably as a Major in the U.S. Air Force. He opened his first Obstetrics-Gynecology practice in Tampa, Florida in 1973 and in 1986 moved to South Florida, where he practiced until the time of his death. During his medical career, he excelled professionally and delivered thousands of babies. From 1969 to 1973, he was married to Blanca Chamorro and they had two beautiful children. He was preceded in death by his father, Eduardo Simpson Aballi. He is survived by his mother, Concepcion Simpson Cotta of Miami; his son Eduardo Juan Simpson of New York City; and daughter and son-in-law Blanca Maria and Chad Baimsfather of New Orleans; granddaughters Andrea and Isabella; and many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and close friends who will always remember this remarkable and very special man.

I am a lawyer who had the privilege to have known and represented Dr. Simpson. He was a fine physician as well as a charming and delightful individual the community will surely miss.

My sincere condolences to his family.
