Edward Alford Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 19 to Apr. 20, 2023.
Edward Lee Alford, a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend, departed this world on April 1, 2023.

Born in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, Lee lived most of his life in Cedar Key, Florida. He was an avid outdoorsman who possessed a true appreciation of the natural world, and he was a keen observer of the beauty surrounding him. Wood was his passion, and he would visualize images, translating this passion into works of art depicting roses, crosses, animals, and various other characters, which brought smiles to the faces of many. Lee's genuine love for all living things was on full display during his interactions with animals, and he will forever be remembered for picking up snakes, frogs, turtles, and other animals for his siblings to hold and enjoy, sparking a love of nature in his siblings that still exists today. While Lee was not a hunter, he loved fishing and the peace that accompanied a fishing pole in his hand, and line in the water.

Throughout his 58 years, his wit and laughter superseded the challenges life put before him, and he could always be counted on to lift the spirits of those who were down even when he may have been the one who truly needed a lift. Those who were fortunate enough to know Lee will always remember that he lived a life filled with an infectious sense of humor and uncommon humility.

Lee's unselfish nature and sweet spirit positively impacted many people, and because of his desire to help those in need, he earned his certification as an emergency medical technician from the College of Central Florida.

Since childhood, sports - especially the Florida Gators - were a catalyst for his beautiful smile. Lee passionately enjoyed Gator football in "The Swamp" with family and friends.

Lee had a true passion for family and the bonds of love. He was a devoted son to Frances M. Nesbitt and a caring sibling to Ender Nesbitt, Marian Nesbitt, and Patrick Alford. He was the father of Cassandra Noel Peters, grandfather to October Anna Leah and Willow Grace Barnett, and he was the uncle of Blair A. Nesbitt. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Wayne Alford.

Those who were part of his vast circle of friends will forever miss his compassion and authenticity as a human being.

Lee will be missed, and we look forward to seeing him again!

Private interment took place at the Cedar Key Cemetery.

Please consider donating to an animal shelter to honor his memory and the essence of his spirit as a child of nature.

I moved to Cedar Key in 1979.
I was in 1st grade. Lee was always in my life and if a Cedar Key Native, in your life too.
Lee always had a smile and a pleasant conversation. Always happy. Contagious laugh. He made everyone around him feel happy. He will be missed and never forgotten.
