Edward E. Calabrese, 88, passed away on June 6, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at his home. Born in West Springfield, MA on April 5, 1932, he was the son of the late Henry and Theresa (Hanley) Calabrese. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1955, serving aboard the USS Wright (CVL-49), afterwards graduating from American International College. Prior to retirement, he worked at Baystate Medical Center as a concierge for 30 years. Before that he had worked in management at HP Hood in Suffield Ct. for 24 years. Ed was a hockey player in his youth and an amateur photographer. He brought smiles to many with his sense of humor and genuine caring for people and their families at Baystate Medical Center. He had lifelong adoration for military history, ships and the sea and a knowledge and admiration for all types of aircraft. A longtime communicant of St. John's Parish in Agawam, his favorite times were spent at the shores, often with his sister Lorraine, and with friends out on the town. He was unique in his ability to create special memories for his family and friends. Dearly loved, he will be missed. He is survived by his sister Lorraine Demilia of Wethersfield, CT; his former wife Nancy (Rossetti) Calabrese of Feeding Hills, MA; his sons Edward Calabrese, Jr., Louis Calabrese, Henry Calabrese and Karl Calabrese; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, June 27, 2020 from 9 – 11 AM at Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam with a service at 11 AM. Committal services with military honors will be held in St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery, Kings Hwy., West Springfield. Memorial contributions in Edward's memory may be made to American Diabetes Association, 260 Cochituate Road, Suite 200, Framingham, MA 01701. So sad to hear of Ed's passing. I worked at Baystate for 30 years and many days I came into work, he was the first smile to brighten my day or when leaving for home, the last smile that said, have a great evening. I observed that he always maintained a warm, caring and professional demeanor with patients and visitors. He truly was the face of Baystate. While I'm no longer at Baystate, he is one of those people I was privileged to call s friend and who will be sorely missed
My deepest sympathy and condolences to the family. May he rest in peace and let perpetual light shine upon him.
He'll be THE BEST greeter Heaven will gain!

I am saddened to see Mr. Calabrese has passed - I recognized his picture immediately on MassLive knowing him only as the happy, friendly greeter in the lobby on many tough visits to Baystate Medical throughout the years. He always made the visits easier to handle with his unforgettable smile and charm. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. He will truly be one of Heaven's Best Greeters!
Sincerely, Jeannie Fallon Pescitelli and Family
