Edward Camfield Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 16, 2006.
PLATTSBURGH — Come follow me sayeth the Lord. On Sept. 14, 2006, Edward J. Camfield joined his savior after a long and courageous battle to survive.

Ed was born Dec. 29, 1915, in Mechanicville, N.Y., the son of William and Margaret (Owens) Camfield. His youth was spent in Glens Falls where he grew up and developed the qualities that made him a kind and caring young man.

After being schooled at St. Mary's Academy, he proudly entered the U.S. Army and served his country in Europe during World War II. In 1951, Ed married the love of his life, Marge Beauchemin of Saranac and they enjoyed 55 wonderful years together.

Ed's employment took them to various places, from the Alaskan pipeline to the tunnel for New York City Water, to the Seaway in Massena, the Thruway of New York and finally to the Office of General Services for the State of New York.

In 1981, Ed retired and enjoyed the luxury of occupying his time with a variety of projects while he waited for Marge to retire in 1991. They then returned to the North Country where they built their dream home which has given them much pride and joy.

Ed is survived locally by his loving wife Marge; and his precious daughter Debbie and her husband Larry Alphonso. Also surviving him is an elder daughter Sheila and her husband Wayne King of Virginia; their children and grandchildren. Ed is also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eileen and Art Tacy, Toni and Norman Beauchemin and Jean Beauchemin; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ed was predeceased by his parents and his three brothers, Chuck, Bill and Tom Camfield.

Ed was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends and acquaintances. He will always be remembered for his Irish charm, outgoing personality and his fun-loving, happy-go-lucky ways. Ed enjoyed life and he always had a smile and a good word for all.

Ed was courageous and strong in his fight to overcome his illness and he accepted gracefully what he could not change. His sense of humor, positive attitude and concern for others were with him until the end.

Please come to say good-bye and share a memory at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home Sunday between 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh.

Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Tom Miller Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Building Fund, The American Lung Association, or The American Parkinson's Disease Association.

Dear Aunt Margie and Debbie,

I would like to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. The loss of my dad changed my life in profound ways. Along with the grief and sadness comes a sense of peace in time. A peace from knowing they live on in our hearts and minds. Uncle Ed lives on like that for me. His wit, cheer and that unforgettable laugh is forever a part every family event we shared. I hope that time will bring that peace to you too, but until then, know that he is a cherished part of our family’s spirit.

With Prayers,

mickey tacy
