Edward Capowski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2025.
New Britain - Edward J. Capowski, 72, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, in New Britain, CT, surrounded by his children. He was born on March 5, 1952, in Yonkers, NY, to TJ and Christina Capowski and was the fifth of eight siblings.

Ed proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1975 to 1979, achieving the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge. Following his service, he built a successful career as a union carpenter, retiring in 2008. Beyond his work, Ed found joy in golf-despite their love-hate relationship-and took great pride in watching his sons play sports while teaching them carpentry and valuable life skills. With his daughter, he shared a love for bowling and photography. In later years, he devoted time to home projects and cherished moments with his two granddaughters. Ed always considered his greatest accomplishment to be his children.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Ed is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sarah Capowski; his three children: Adam and his wife Megan Capowski, along with their daughters Peyton and Haley; Justin and his wife Lauryn Capowski; and Elizabeth and her husband Tom Gately, eagerly awaiting the arrival of their son. He is also survived by his siblings: Robert (Faith) Capowski, Thomas (Stelli) Capowski, Donald Capowski, Peter (Mary) Capowski, Teresa (Pat) Knetter, James (Angie) Capowski, and Linda Arminio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A wake will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Fred McGrath Funeral Home, 20 Cedar St., Bronxville, NY 10708. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's name to the Prostate Cancer Foundation (www.pcf.org) or the Dementia Society (www.dementiasociety.org).

I am so sorry to hear this. I can remember his smiling face when all the Uncles would stand together hanging out at family get togethers. You will be missed, Uncle Eddie.

There were many memories, great times, and so much laughter growing up and through the years. We spoke often of our hopes, dreams, and everything in between. You have a gentile, kind, compassionate soul. You are loved and will be missed. My friend, my confidant, my brother...I will hold you in my heart forever.

Big ed wasn´t just a friend but a father figure for me and many other friends and families, from middle school, high school and into adulthood. Ed and Sarah raised three successful kids and I know he is whole seeing the people you have become. No matter how long it was, seeing the big guy immediately put a smile on my face. Sarah, Adam, Justin and Liz I´m so sorry for your loss. Love you guys.

Ed was a committed father and husband, and that he has been lost at such a young age is devastating for everyone he knew. I hope at this time everyone can come together and embrace each other. Despite the faults and disagreements, everyone can honor and cherish the good person Edward Capowski was.

Your family was blessed to have been loved by this wonderful man. His loss is devastating. However, his memories will always be close to your heart. Use them when life seems to be tougher than it should be to return a smile to your face. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
