Edward Caruthers Obituary

Edward "Edd" B. Caruthers, 59, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 23, 2008. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 27 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Bro. Hank Jones officiating. Special music was provided by godson David Garrison. Burial was in Crossville City Cemetery. Full military honors were given.

Mr. Caruthers was born Feb. 4, 1949, in Cumberland County, the son of Lawrence Ridley and Annie Willard Garrison Caruthers.

He was employed at Oak Ridge Y-12 as an electrical supervisor. He was also a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during Vietnam, and a member of Pine Eden Baptist Church. He was fascinated with aeronautics and loved to fly. Along with being a pilot, he was also a flight instructor and served on the Civil Air Patrol. Serving on the Cumberland County Youth Center Board was also very important to him. He was a loving husband, father and brother who was loved dearly and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Caruthers of Crossville; daughters and son-in-law, Glenda Shaw and Gwen and Adam Flynn, all of Crossville; brothers and sister-in-law, David and Barbara Caruthers of Crossville, Joe and Linda Caruthers of Lenoir City and Roger and Lori Caruthers of Crossville; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Shaw, Chance and Kylie Shaw, Bryant Shaw and Ashton Flynn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers were Jack Lowery, Mike Lewis, Rick Lewis, Steve Stone, Greg Walker, Clifford Waldo, Benny Hill and Ronnie Hennager.

In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully asked that donations be made to the Cumberland County Youth Center.

Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.

Kathy, I am just finding out that Edd has passed. We lost touch once again. He served in the USAF with my late husband, George. I have fond memories of him. So sorry for your loss.
