With great sadness the family of Edward Cielinski announces his passing on Feb. 12, 2021, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J.
Ed was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Pottsville, to Edward and Alma (Zula) Cielinski. He grew up in Minersville, where at a dance he met his future wife, Dolores Maley. Their polka skills were epic and, in 1957, they became not only dance partners but partners for life. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Garwood, N.J., where they raised their family.
After a long career at Economic Laboratories, Ed's strong work ethic kept him busy with a second career at Global Windows as well as many volunteer roles. A devout Catholic, he was an active parishioner at St. Anne's Church, where he was a regular usher at 5:30 Saturday Mass. He was also active with Boy Scouts of America Troop 75, The Garwood Knights of Columbus and Garwood Seniors.
Ed will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul who could never say no to helping out family and friends. He loved Atlantic City, jigsaw puzzles and a nice cold beer. His Sunday dinners were a weekly ritual and while he loved to cook for his family; he never forgot his four legged friends and always had a special treat in hand to spoil them.
Ed was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Dolores (2020), and his grandson, David.
He is survived by his brother, James (Pam); sister-in-law, Ann Marie; his daughter, Donna Provenzano (Stephen); grandchildren, Brianna, Alyssa and Cara; son, David, (Jackie); grandchildren, Devin, Matthew, April and Erin; daughter, Judy; loving nieces and nephews.
We are quite sure in a small corner of heaven there is a polka playing and Ed and Dolores are dancing.
Friends and family are welcome to gather from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at Memorial Funeral Home, Fanwood, N.J. The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at the Church of St. Anne in Garwood, followed by entombment in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edward's name to the Church of St. Anne in Garwood or the charity of your choice.
