E. Craig Layfield, 52, of Ventura, died on February 23, 2012, due to injuries sustained while riding his motorcycle. Craig was born in Coudersport, Pennsylvania on November 20, 1959, and had been a resident of Ventura for 33 years moving from Santa Maria.
He had spent most of his working career in the auto repair and tire industry. Craig worked various positions such as manager, assist manager, service manager, auto technician and retail sales. He worked for numerous companies, Mountain View Tire in Oxnard, Big Brand Tire in Camarillo and Ventura, Goodyear in Santa Barbara, and Santa Maria Tire in Santa Maria.
Craig's passion in life was motorcycle riding and track racing. It gives us some measure of comfort knowing that Craig was doing what he loved the most at the end of his life. He was a member of the "Ventura Bike Night" club.
While on his many camping trips, he looked forward to ATV drag racing, mountain biking and target shooting; he also enjoyed deep sea fishing. He loved gourmet cooking and barbequing for family and friends. Craig was known for his kindness and very big heart.
Craig is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Terri Kane Layfield of Ventura; two stepsons, Jimmy Martin (his wife, Shalimar) and Guy Martin all of Ventura; mother and stepfather, Sandra and Dan Guthrie of Pismo Beach; mother-in-law, Gloria Kane of Ventura; brothers, Scott Layfield of Nipomo and Todd Layfield of Kansas; his four granddaughters, Ashley, Makaela, Tatum and Tarah Martin all of Ventura, who he adored and loved spending time with. Also his niece, Carrie O'Hara of Texas; four nephews, Zachery Layfield of Nipomo, Jaiden, Dalton and Tylor Layfield all of Kansas; and his beloved kitty, Isis. Craig will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 1st, 1:00 P.M. at the residence of Lynn McWaters, 1497 Fallenleaf Ave., Ventura, CA, 93004.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory. Condolences may be left at TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
