Dr. Edward William
Age 65, died at home on Thursday, January 26, 2017 surrounded by his family and friends after a long battle with Lymphoma. Ed was born March 27, 1951 in Danbury, CT to Sarah (Hetherington) and the late Joseph Foster, and grew up in Hoosick Falls, NY. He is also predeceased by his sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Canney. In addition to his mother he is also survived by his wife Mary Johanna, his sons, John and William, his daughter Mary, and his sister Anne and her husband Kent Akin, father-in-law John C. Canney (late Barbara T. Canney), sisters-in-laws, Karen Bauman and Patricia (Thomas) Labert, brothers-in-law, Stephen, John, William (Kari), Mark (Mary Beth), and Robert (Denise) Canney, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, dog lover, brewmaster, guitar player, and was an aficionado of New Mexico and the southwestern U.S. He was a graduate of King's College-Wilkes Barre, Seton Hall University, and did his Ph.D. at the University of New Mexico in Microbial Physiology. Ed attended Medical School at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and did his Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Buffalo. Dr. Foster was the first patient at the University of Rochester Medical Center to undergo CAR T-cell immunotherapy as part of a national clinical trial. Dr. Foster practiced at Internal Medicine Associates of the Southern Tier (IMAST) and was affiliated with Arnot Ogden Medical Center and St. Joseph's Hospital. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers, will then take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Dr. Foster with a donation to Golisano Hope Lodge Hospitality House, 1120 Goodman St. South, Rochester, NY 14620.

Dear Hanna and Family, Time has passed so quickly but on the anniversary of DrFoster´s death , I hope that all of you are doing better. He was a fine man and talked of all of you with such love. He also was so kind to all of his patients even the difficult ones that I had the pleasure of working with. Hanna , I think of you often and how you always offered to come to my Mom´s home and help with her care when you were dealing with so much including your own Mom. You are an Angel on earth and are also much loved. So here is to DrFoster´s memory and the hope that you and yours are finding the peace that you deserve! You are loved and appreciated! Hanna and Family, I am so sorry for your loss of your husband and father . Dr. Foster was an exceptional doctor as well as a person and Hanna, I feel the same towards you ! Both of you were so quick to offer assistance to anyone who needed it . I can't imagine what all of you are going through and I wish wasn't 3,000 mi. away so I could help you in some way . My heart is breaking for the loss of a wonderful , kind man. He will be missed !! My Mom always loved you Hanna and she also spoke highly of Dr. Foster. I thought he was getting better because Larry told me He was back to work. I had him on my prayer list. Larry then called and said he had been to calling hours so I was shocked and deeply saddened ! You are all in my thoughts and prayers and thank you for the years of loving care given to my residents and my Mom plus the advice you always gave to me. Heaven gained another Angel ! He will always be with you watching over all of you.

First time we met Mr.Froster was when Mary joined NDO Lady Xmen. The connection was instant. Mr. Foster was a gentle heart. On our road trips, our daughters would hangout together and bond. Dr. Foster,
I first met you when you walked onto my unit at St Joes and If it wasn't for your white MD coat I would probably still be thinking you were a cowboy. Your unique, booming voice had a softness to it and your smile could turn even the sourest of days around. It was an honor to work along side you. You were a leader, a teacher. To Hanna and family, Dr. Foster was so proud to be a husband and father. I say this because every time he came around he talked about you (and sometimes had some in tow) with such pride. I am deeply sorry to hear of his passing. My prayers are with you.

Dr. Foster was my primary care doctor before I moved to New Mexico 3 1/2 years ago. He was my late wife Kate's primary care physician as well. I remember him as a caring, compassionate man who always had extra time for his patients. My condolences to his family.
