Dearest Ed,

It was an honor and a privilege to be your secretary when you first started with the City Law Departmet. You always reected my abilities and my institutional knowledge and you made me feel like your equal instead of just your secretary, and that meant the world to me. I wish I would have told you that in person, but something tells me you already knew it.

I will miss you!

With love,
Patty

To the Gentry family - Ed and I were friends through our years at IUP, with many classes together in that span, and later at Pitt (for his final year). Ed was calm and funny, and a good man - he was never obtrusive, but always in the right spot. We did not stay close after I left Pittsburgh, and I wish we had. His soul and family will be in our prayers this holiday season.

Erika,
Here is my A and B tribute to the professional memory I have of your Uncle, Edward Franklin Gentry, III:
A. Since long before being assigned Ed's secretary on March 16, 2007, I dubed him The Barker, the attorney who had a direct way of communicating with his clients.
B. It is with that thought in prayer for Ed's soul, I thought of Ed and God having a talk similar to this: Ed: "God, it's mighty nice of you to invite me to Heaven, but I don't want to come." God: "Edward, stop your barking and just come, I know your heart. Welcome and rest from that barking thing you do down there, I may even serve you Mitchell's baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy on Thursdays and have only the pound cake you said only your niece Erika could bake the way you like it sent to Heaven! Amen."

In addition to being a colleague, Ed was my neighbor. Faithfully, he would take his dog on daily walks. At work, Ed was an avid reader and possessed a terrific memory. Usually greeting with a smile, he was always friendly. He will be missed.
