Edward Pius Getz, 49, Bismarck, passed away at his home under hospice care on December 18, 2005, with his wife, parents, and family by his side.

Edward was born on March 3, 1956, in Bismarck, the son of Pius and Regina (Vetter) Getz.  Edward attended schools in Bismarck.  On June 29, 1979, he married his soul mate and love of his life, Kathy Simon.  Edward worked for Amcon for twenty-six years.

He was a NASCAR junkie and attended several races.  Edward loved to travel and his most memorable vacation was his cruise to Alaska.  He also loved to give people a hard time; he could dish it out but he could also take it.

A fond memory family and friends have was watching Kathy and Ed glide gracefully across any dance floor.  Known for his straight-forward honesty and humor, Ed was an inspiration in his acceptance of his terminal cancer as he lived   life fully to the end.

Edward leaves behind his wife of twenty-six years, Kathy of Bismarck; his parents, Pius and Regina Getz of Bismarck; his sister and brother-in-law, Agatha and Paul Smith of Idaho Falls; his nephew, Jason Smith of Denver; and his special friends, Clyde and Cindy Graff of Bismarck, Joe and Colleen Ressler of Mandan, and Susan Banning of Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Agatha and Conrad Vetter and Mary and Joe Getz.

Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday at Church of St. Mary in Bismarck with Rev. Bruce Krebs officiating.  A rosary service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be sent to St. Alexius Hospice, PO Box 5510, Bismarck, ND 58506, or the charity of your choice.
