Edward Lachmuth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 29, 2015.
Edward Lachmuth August 8,1921-May 24,2015 Edward died peacefully May 24, 2015.

Edward was born in Humbolt, Saskatchewan, to Paul and Clara Lachmuth. He is predeceased by brothers Tony and Emil, half-brother Carl; sisters Julie, Joanna, and Blondie; and by first wife Verna (McConnell) and his daughter Lenore. He is survived by his wife of sixty four years, Ruth and sisters Leona, Tillie, and Marlene and by his sons Lyle (Joyce) and Rod (Mary). He had five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War as a machine gunner, receiving an honourable discharge at the level of Sergeant. He received shrapnel wounds from a mortar during the campaign in Sicily. Following his return to duty after hospitalization he served in Italy to the conclusion of the war.

Following his return from the war he took up the trade of carpentry and eventually became a journeyman Carpenter. Shortly after the war he met, romanced, and married Verna McConnell. That union produced twins: Lenore and Lyle. When Verna died Ed moved with his twin children to live with his family in Calgary where he continued to live all his life.

After his retirement Ed took up two hobbies: fishing and using his carpentry skills to help his children. Ed's eyes would always shine and he would sit right up in his chair when he received visits from his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Ed will be remembered for his shy, soft spoken manner, willingness to help, and for being a genuinely nice person.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Bow View Manor for the care and attention they provided to Ed.
