Edward Lanier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 29, 2022.

Edward Lanier was born on July 20, 1954 to the late Rose White-Lanier and Everett Lanier. He grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey and graduated from St. Peter's College. Most of Edward's early adult life was spent as a contractor which allowed him the opportunity to travel and live all over the country. This love for travel remained with him throughout his life.

Edward met his wife Ella while in college and from that union came their daughter, Brittany. Edward doted on his baby girl and even kept the tradition of Daddy-Daughter dates as she became an adult. Edward's love of music was passed on, not only to his daughter, but to everyone who encountered him. Music helped connect Edward to all kinds of people from various walks of life and no musical artistry
helped to connect him to people quite like Sly and The Family Stone. Edward was a true fan and many of his best friendships forged in adulthood came from a shared love of the group.

Unlike many others, Edward was given a second chance at a once in a lifetime type of love when he wed his wife Erica in 2016. They enjoyed many concerts and trips together. Edward was also a huge Raiders fan and stuck with his team for over 40 years! He was also extremely fond of his "grandcat" Galaxy.

Affectionately, known as "Uncle Edde" to many he leaves holding dear memories, his wife Erica, daughter Brittany, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and fellow S&TFS fans.

Ed was a friend, co-worker and confidant. He will be sorely missed by everyone. Ed didn’t have one bad bone in his body. When we used to go to lunch at work it took forever to leave the building as everyone had to stop us and talk to Ed. Ed was a top notch architect at Fannie Mae for many years. Ed and I remained in contact through the years and shared the bond of football. Ed loved his wife and daughter more than anything in the world. We will all miss this great man and his infectious laugh dearly.

I was honored and felt blessed to be at the service. I loved Edde and will remember him warmly and fondly always. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Brittany and Erica. The service was absolutely beautiful as it honestly was a celebration of who Edde was. May he rest in peace. Friend, Mona

We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to hear about the death of our dear dear friend Eddie.
We have been friends with Eddie for over 40 years. After he left Jersey City he would come up to visit and always stayed with us. He introduced us to his friends from Sly and the Family Stone and his visits always involved listening to plenty of music or music concerts.
To my dear friend Erika, I am so sorry my sweet friend. The 4 of us always had such beautiful memories. I love you and him forever.
To Brittany, I remember you as a little girl playing with our children. He loved you so.
So goodbye dear friend our hearts ache.
You will never be forgotten always loved.

Met Edde while attending St Peter’s Prep in Jersey City. We lost contact after graduation but reconnected via Facebook and shared our love of music, particularly electric guitars, over the last few years. He was a great guy and will be dearly missed. Life is so fleeting and we need to enjoy it to the max in memory of Edde. It’s what he’d want us to do.

To Erica & family I was so sorry to hear of "Uncle Eddes" passing .I had the pleasure of meeting you & Eddie here in Philly several years ago at the waterfront for a Sly Stone band tribute. We spoke periodically about doing some music together but never got to it. He was one hilarious guy,but very knowledgeable about Sly ,who was one of 2 big influences on me pursing a career in music. May God Bless you & yours & the entire SATFS Family

Edde was a shining light and a blessing to the world ! He had such a generous and loving spirit. He made such a impact on my life. We became like blood brother's through Sly & The Family Stone and the Las Vegas Raiders. REV 14:13.

I never met Edde in real life, but we were friends, friends on Facebook, a dear friend, who I loved talking to, I regarded him as a good friend, always knowledgeable about Sly Stone, I loved the photos of him with his guitars, and photos of his family. I will always have a piece of him in my heart. My condolences goes to his family and close friends. Gone but never forgotten.

Still hard to believe but the circle of life has an end date for all of us. Was blessed to have met Edde in high school at Prep and to reconnect later in life through our love of music - especially guitars. Truly a great guy and will be definable missed. Rest in Paradise Edde and see you on the other side.
