Edward Lubbers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 3, 2018.
Notable History: Graduated from University of Illinois, Circle, B.A. with Honors 1973 Liberal Arts & Science, 1976 Graduate of John Marshall Law School, Juris Doctor, with distinction, and elected to the Order of John Marshall. Began his legal career in Peru, Illinois and practiced for 12 years in Chicago, Illinois on LaSalle Street. Moved to Nevada in 1988 where he has practiced as The Lubbers Law Group until his recent passing.
Ed grew up in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago. In 1977 he married Linda Rae Dickelman in a small, intimate ceremony at Immanuel Bethel United Church of Christ located in Dolton, IL. They resided in Ladd, Dolton, and Lansing, Illinois until the family moved to Las Vegas in 1988.
Throughout the years Ed has enjoyed handball, tennis and pinochle especially with his dear friend Bob Anadell. He was an avid history buff which many would have considered him an expert, especially on American Presidents. Teddy Roosevelt ranked high on his list. He enjoyed his daily crossword puzzle along with playing poker around the kitchen table with friends and family especially at his cottage/lake home in Antioch, Illinois with wonderful friend, Jon Chapman and his mom, Gloria.
Throughout the years Ed has been involved with many philanthropic organizations and gave so freely and willingly from his heart. He enjoyed playing softball with the gang at Cook County Recorder of Deeds where he worked while attending law school. He served as President and Board member for Immanuel Bethel United Church of Christ and was an active participant in Dolton-Riverdale Jaycees. Prior to moving to Nevada, he was an elected Trustee in Lansing, Illinois. Ed was prompted to move to Las Vegas after The League of Cities Convention. Ed & Linda's car was plowed and iced in at Midway Airport upon their return with only a credit card to help de-ice the windows. Ed and Linda decided right in the parking lot of Midway that they had had it with Chicago winters. Ed had been commuting Downtown LaSalle Street and Linda was doing residential appraising and jumping through snow piles to measure homes. By April 1988 they were on their way to Las Vegas! Since then he has actively been involved in the community serving unselfishly to many various organizations. He was a member of Southern Nevada Homebuilders for years and provided many pro bono services. Has also served on the Board of Directors for KNPR radio, was member of NAIOP, and Past President. He was the first person to be acknowledged by NAIOP with their Spotlight Awards in 1995 for his continuous emphasis on political affairs. Mayor Oscar Goodman acknowledged him as the first Citizen of the Month by having the street by City Hall named after him and each recipient that followed. There are many others but too numerous to mention.
Ed is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda, daughter Trisha Lynn Montez, son in law Steve Montez, granddaughter, Theresa Marie Montez, great granddaughter, Audrey Rose, all of Las Vegas. Two nieces, Kayla Krause, Las Vegas, Nevada and Janice McArthur (Jarrett) of Cypress, Texas, one nephew Chance Lubbers (Rhonda) of Cleveland, Texas. Two sisters-in-laws, Kathy Dickelman of Las Vegas, Nevada and Jeanne Lubbers of Katy, Texas and many great nieces and nephews as well as cousins scattered around the country.
As most know, his little Lucy & baby "loud mouth" Desi, miss him so much. Their tails are drooping & eyes are tearing. They are aware that their Daddy is not coming home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward C Lubbers, in a horrific car accident along with brother Tommy Lubbers in 1954, his mother Eunice Kopiec, and more recently, his brother, Ron Lubbers (Jeanne).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 23rd at 5:30 p.m. at Red Rock Country Club, followed by a dinner reception to greet family and friends and share stories about Ed. RSVP required.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ed's memory to his favorite dog rescues & non-profits. The Animal Foundation, Nevada SPCA, Anchors Up Rescue Group, Connor and Millies and his favorite bell ringers, The Salvation Army.
