While I somehow never met Ed when we were students, I always appreciated his contributions to the 'alumni ' news. At this point, the survivors from '52 are all over 90 and somehow surviving: a tribute to modern medicine.

Dear Cousin Eddie,
I'm so glad I got to know you these last 4-5 years. I'm especially glad to have learned that the Mecies/Margulies family was not wiped out by the war (as I had previously imagined) but is, rather, thriving. It was great to talk genealogy with you and to hear what your/our family was like when you were growing up. I spoke with you just a couple of months ago, and came away thinking that you had rebounded from your ailments. I guess we never really know when our time is up. I hope you are resting comfortably now. Sending you a big hug, wherever you are. Janet

When our last child was born, he came so rapidly that an ambulance rushed me to the hospital alone. No family members nearby. In the emergency room they asked if I knew anyone in the hospital. I mentioned Dr Margolis, and somehow he was standing by me a few minutes later. His presence and calm voice-a friend NEARBY-gave me such a feeling of relief and safety! I´ll never forget that few minutes where he was my emotional hero. What a lovely man, who lived a full and meaningful life-but what a sorrow that we all have to part with him. My sincere condolences to his children and his devoted wife Pauline. Your husband and father and grandfather will not be forgotten.

Having met Ed when I joined MEL in 2024, he greeted me with a smile and a hardy handshake. When I saw him at the last MEL monthly meeting, he still greeted me with a smile and a hearty handshake. I went to one event that Ed sponsored and it was the annual Restaurant show last year when Mell members picked over left over items to be distributed to Chicago food pantries. I´ll miss him at this one.
