Edward McKAY Obituary

Published by North Shore News from May 12 to Jun. 11, 2021.
McKAY, Edward A. (Corky) January 30, 1942 - April 28, 2021 Born in the old North Vancouver Hospital. Attended Lonsdale Elementary, Hamilton Jr. High and Delbrook Sr. High Schools in North Vancouver. Worked for Evergreen Press in Vancouver from 1959 - 1960. He joined the Canadian Army (Queens Own Rifles) from early 1960 - 1964 with two of those years in Continental Europe. After being discharged from the military he returned home to North Vancouver and married Fern (Sewell). Worked at two more jobs and then was accepted back at Evergreen Press in the printing press department as an apprentice press operator and did this for over twenty five years until downsizing caused him to be laid off. He was unemployed for a while and worked other jobs, as well as volunteer jobs. He worked for Jackson Printing for just under three years until they closed their doors. He then purchased Ever Ready Printers in New West with two partners for about a decade, after which he sold the business and retired. In Ed's youth he was an Air Cadet in #103 squadron in North Vancouver. Much later he qualified for flight school and received his pilot's licence. He was a volunteer Ski Patroller on Seymour Mountain for a number of seasons, becoming a weekend supervisor. Ed became a member of the Duke of Connaught Masonic Lodge in North Vancouver. In later years he became a district deputy grand master. He was a volunteer driver for the Masonic Cancer Car Project. Ed enjoyed camping with his family, skiing and fishing. He was always dreaming about doing more flying after renewing his licence. Ed and Fern divorced and later in life he met his partner and soulmate Cathy, and together they got two Chihuahuas. They loved to travel to Kelowna and Salmon Arm every year with their Chihuahuas. He and Cathy also enjoyed their summer walks with the dog's at Kings Mill park in North Vancouver for fifteen years until his illness. Ed is predeceased by his parents and his brother Michael. He leaves behind his brother and sisters David (Nancy), Heather (John) and Leslie (Roger); his partner Cathy; his daughter Lisa (Ryan); and son Douglas. Also, his grandchildren, Keegan, Kyle, Tyren, Liam, and Rhiannon, and his nieces and nephews. He loved living in North Vancouver with its mountains and the sea. We are born, live our lives and end in a better place. He says: "No worries" I'm in that better place".
