I remember Ed as a really nice friend, from grammer school in Elmira. Always wondered where he ended up. He's in my prayers.

Fran and Todd,
I was so sad to see this. I have told many, many people-the two most influential men in my life were my Dad and Ed. I went to work for Ed when a 19 year old kid. When I left Ed I was a man. Talk about tough love--that was Ed. He was as hard on me as any perosn I have ever worked for or with--but I ended up working harder for him than anyone else. The absolute BEST days of my life were at Penn Allegh working for Ed.
I hope he was buried with his beat up white hard hat and pick hammer! I curse myself for not talking to him in recent years--he was larger than life.

I had the pleasure of growing up with Ed in Elmira and we both worked one summer on the old Pennsylvania RR during college summer break. He was a wonderful, caring person, great athlete. My sympathy and prayers to the family.

It was truly an honor and pleasure to have know Ed. He always went out of his way to take care of others. My thoughts and prayers go out to his beautiful wife Francine may she have strength to carry on.

I am sorry for your loss. I always had a very great time when I was around Ed at the festivals over the years. I will always have fond memories of Ed. Sincerely Junior

So very sorry to hear of your loss. I have fond memories of the Fall weekend in circa 1972 (at age 10) when our Horseheads, NY Merritt family visited Ed and family and then went to a Pitt Panthers game and a Steelers game. Ed was my favorite person in the world that weekend, especially when he introduced us to some of the Pitt Football players, including a Freshman Tony Dorsett.
He was a good man who did alot of nice things for alot of people.
With deepest sympathy,
Steve and Cathy Merritt of Geneseo, NY

Fran,Todd & family. This is Ed Merritt, brother of Rex. Ken Michaels called me today with this sad news. Sorry for yours and our loss of a good man. Such a hard worker all his life. I have good memories of staying at his house of sports, fishing and talking as my friend. We will all miss him. You all must carry on, have faith. Ed Merritt,Chattanooga,Tn
