I just heard of this sad news and my thoughts are with Ed's family. Ed was my supervisor when I first started working at Devereux in 1990 and I was fortunate to work with a great team. In addition to Penn State Football and the Giants, I remember Ed talking about Claire, his sons and his parents and especially remember how proud he was when his sons were born! It is evident in all of the comments from former Devereux, Don Guanella and the Red Cross staff how important Ed was to so many who worked with him and that he will be remembered. Thoughts and prayers are with Ed's family.

To the Mika family, friends and colleagues I extend my deepest sympathy. Ed was my first boss in life that enabled me to be indoctrinated into the mental health field. God put me in a special place knowing that Ed was in charge of things. His humor kept things loose, his confidence allowed others to positively develop. Ed exemplified his pride, experience and good nature, even in some difficult times. This allows many memories to be shared with the staff, families and clients I serve today. The NY Giants should know there was never a more loyal fan. I always felt our work team was coached by a true leader. Rest in Peace my friend. Gone too soon, but always remembered. Peace!

Dear Claire & Boys -- just heard about this tragedy a few hours ago. Claire, I am soooo sorry--just so very sorry. I am wondering how you and the boys are doing. I remember Ed at Eddie's 16th birthday party. You had "warned" me that he was a big guy, but I didn't realize until I met him and he towered over me! I know you loved him a lot, Claire. I hope the good memories will help see you through this very trying time. Please give my hugs to yourself, Eddie and Adam. You have always been in my thoughts and prayers and will remain so. Hang in.

My family and I met Ed in 2012, when we were holding a blood drive in memory of my mother. He created an easygoing atmosphere that put everyone at ease, and it was a pleasure to work with him. We also had the opportunity to meet his older son. Our sincere sympathies go out to Ed's entire family, and our thoughts are with you.

Big Ed, You and I both hate computers so I find this quite ironic. Look for the campfire my friend, it will be my Father waiting for you. May we never forget the joy and laughter you brought to us. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. As our Lord has promised, I know I will see you again. Till then, go G Men!

My memory of Ed goes back some 30 years ago. Ed was on my summer league basketball team. Ed was a beast on the Boards. He was a very nice, good guy. Then later on that summer drove me and his two younger brothers to Philadelphia for a concert(Doobie Brothers) then we all went to Wildwood NJ.for a few days. We got there late at night and found a room just off the Beach. My thoughts go out to his family. .
