Edward F. Pita, 84, a resident of West Bridgewater for the past 57 years, died Monday afternoon at Kindred Hospital in Stoughton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Laura (Salvador) Pita. Born in Cambridge on April 27, 1926, a son of the late Manuel and Matilda (Correia) Pita, he was raised in Easton and was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School. A veteran of World War II, Edward served as a gunners mate third class in the U.S. Navy. Edward was employed as a foreman for Plymouth Rubber Company in Canton. He later was employed as a mechanic for DAngelo Sandwich Shop in Brockton for 12 years. An avid bingo player, he enjoyed trips to Foxwoods and hosting Portuguese Clam Bakes. He is survived by four children, Mrs. Paul (Vangie) Rogers of Raynham, Mrs. William (Toni) Robertson of Sandwich, Mrs. Steven (Mary) Nord of West Bridgewater and Miss Jane Pita of West Bridgewater; two sisters, Elsie Shalowski of Easton and Mary Paccia of Onset; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 605 Washington St. (Rte. 138), Easton, Friday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Anns Church, West Bridgewater, at 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Due to floral restrictions at the cemetery, donations in Edwards memory may be sent to the West Bridgewater Food Pantry-Town Hall, 65 North Main St., West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
