Edward Russo Obituary

Of Walpole, MA, formerly of Katonah, NY, died on Thurs., May 23 at Mary Ann Morse Nursing Center in Natick, MA, at the age of 81. He was born in Haverstraw, NY, graduated from Haverstraw High School and went on to New Paltz College where he graduated with a B.E., and received the Outstanding Male Graduate Award. Mr. Russo served in the Air Force during World War II and was stationed in England and France. When he returned, he joined the faculty of the Robert E. Bell School in Chappaqua, NY, where he met his future wife, Katrine Troyanovich. They raised their two daughters, Ann and Kathy in Katonah, where they resided for 46 years. In 1998 they moved to Walpole, MA to be closer to their daughters. Mr. Russo attended Columbia University where he received a Masters Degree in Education. He was an Elementary School Principal in Yorktown Heights, NY from 1953 to 1981. During this time he was given the honor and responsibility of opening four new schools in this rapidly growing community. After retirement Mr. Russo started his own company, providing computer services to small businesses. Mr. Russo was a competitive athlete as a student, earning four varsity letters in baseball and basketball during his college years. He was also an enthusiastic participant in golf, softball, bowling and tennis throughout his adult life. His hobbies included gardening and ballroom dancing. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout the world, including Canada, Mexico, Europe, Japan, China, Egypt, Turkey, and Russia. Mr. Russo leaves his wife, Katrine T. Russo; two daughters, Ann K. Russo and her husband, Larry Krasnow and Kathy R. Simon and her husband, Ross all of Medfield, MA and four granddaughters. He also leaves a brother James Vincent Russo of Arlington, Texas, and a sister, Elvina Metz of Akron, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church, Katonah, NY on Wed., May 29 at 11 A.M. Interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Edward's Church, 133 Spring St., Medfield, MA on Thursday, June 6 at 6 P.M. Family and friends are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in memory of Edward J. Russo to the Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.
