Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 8, 2025.
Edward E. Schmelz, 82 of Pennington, NJ passed away peacefully on September 2nd. Edward was born in Newark and graduated High School in Irvington. He later attended Newark State College. After his time at college, he worked for Western Pest Control for 26 years. Much of that time was spent in charge of pest control at the Budweiser Facility in Newark.

Edward is survived by his daughter Diane Kuzmiak and her husband Steve Kuzmiak, his daughter Bonnie Schmelz, his step-grandson Jason Kuzmiak, and cousins Nancy Boone, Susie Shabesson, Rebecca Shaw-Gove, and Joe Seifert. He was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Elizabeth Schmelz and his beloved wife and love of his life, Virginia.

Much of his character was exemplified by his dedication and service as an EMT for the Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps for forty one years. Known as a good Samaritan and friend to all, he was engaging and had the gift of gab. He was kind, generous and always willing to help. He enjoyed music and classic television. His love of animals and plants was always evident.

A graveside service will be held at King Solomon Cemetery, 550 Dwasline Road, Clifton, NJ on Wednesday, September 10th at 2PM. A future celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Edward's name to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, 575 Woodland Avenue, Madison, NJ 07940.

Dear Diane and Bonnie,
Our hearts are very sad for you. Your dad was very much a part of your family gatherings, and could always be depended upon for good conversation, a humorous story or an opinion. He will be remembered as a kind soul and definitely a loving father.
All our best to you both,
The Dembow Family

Dear Bonnie and Diane,
Please accept the condolences of the Suarez family: my Mother Niria, brothers Jose and David, and myself, Mayra Suarez Rodriguez. We are SO SORRY for your loss! Ed was my Father´s best friend - they worked together for many years at Western Industries. Their friendship was such that they considered each other brothers more than friends...After my Father passed away, Ed stayed in touch with me and was always concerned for my entire family´s welfare. I greatly enjoyed our conversations- He said I reminded him so much of my Father and he told me many anecdotes that reminded me of how much my Father loved us! Whenever we spoke, it was like I was speaking with Dad again....It brought me a lot of comfort! Your Dad always spoke about his daughters and how they took care of him, especially in these last several months. He loved you both SO MUCH!! May your memories of that love bring you every consolation! I will miss him and will continue to put him in my prayers! "Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him!"

Diane, I'm sorry for the loss of your father. I met and spoke with him a few times at parties at your home. I enjoyed talking with him. He was a pretty cool guy. I know you're going to miss him very much, and I'm very sorry for your loss.
