Edward Schultz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 15, 2014.
Edward G. "Ed" Schultz of Orlando, 89 formerly of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, passed away on March 14th, 2014 in Orlando, FL. Born in Pittsfield, MA on June 26, 1924 he was the son of the late William J. and Lucy (Menard) Schultz of Pittsfield. Immediately after graduating St. Joseph High School, "Ed" enlisted in the army for World War II. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received in Normandy. After discharge he took up residency in Springfield, Massachusetts then moved to Longmeadow in 1979. He and his wife Frances moved to Orlando in 1999. He was retired from the former Zero Corporation where he had been employed for 31 years, first as Chief Draftsman, then as Product Sales Manager at its Monson, Massachusetts plant. For a time his responsibilities included sales in Europe and Israel, to where he traveled often. As a young man he had served in management at several motion-picture theatres in Pittsfield, Holyoke, Northampton and Springfield, MA. He was the author of several published novels, short stories, poetry, and the photo-biography of his brother, famed artist Wm. J. "Bill" Schultz. He had also published his family history, in which he traced his maternal ancestors through Canada, to France in the 1500's and his paternal ancestors to Germany in the mid-1800's. He married Rose Donitrz in 1946 and after her death in 1971 he married the former Frances S. Kilian in 1974. He leaves his present wife Frances of Orlando, his daughter Barbara R. Schultz of Springfield, MA and son William J. Schultz of South Hadley, MA, both children of his first marriage. Also sons Edward F. Schultz (wife Catherine) of Kailua, Hawaii and James K. Schultz of Deerfield Beach, FL, children of his second marriage. He leaves two grandchildren, Sophia C. Schultz and Edward C. Schultz, both of Kailua, Hawaii. "Ed" also leaves a great many nieces and nephews, most residing in the Pittsfield, Massachusetts area.
In addition to his first wife Rose, he was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and four sisters. Ed's interests were many; American history, genealogy, origin of words and surnames, music of the 1920's and 30's, and old movies.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at Basilica of Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine at 3pm on Wednesday March 19th, 2014. The address is 8300 Vineland Ave., Orlando, FL. In lieu of flowers, "Ed" earnestly requests that donations be made to his favorite charities, St. Joseph Indian School, Chamberlain, SD 57325, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN 38105, or any charity benefiting children.

Uncle Eddie was such a nice person. He was part of the glue for the Schultz family and he loved everyone.

Fran, we are very sorry for your loss. We have fond memories of you and Uncle Eddie. My father didn't express himself much but he was so proud to talk about Eddie's accomplishments.

Sorry we were not able to attend the service , we were in Oregon with our family.

Thank you Mr. Schultz for being such a great Scoutmaster for Troop 15. He shared his wisdom, knowledge and dry sense of humor. He was a great example for all the scouts as we were growing up into men.
On my honor, I will do my best....

I remember Mr. Schultz (I'm now 65,I was too young to call him Ed)from the East Forest Park neighborhood. The times we hung around, swam or just visited. He let us practice driving on his standard shift car for our license. He was an extremely nice man as well as family. Sincere sympathy to all.
