Edward Shapiro

SHAPIRO - Edward Jay, Esq. was born December 6, 1937 in NYC and died November 12, 2018 in Vallejo, CA at 80 years of age. He was the son of Joseph and Bertha (Schaeffler) Shapiro. Ed was Bar Mitzvahed in Washington, D.C. March 3, 1951 at the Washington Hebrew Congregation. He graduated from Forest Hills High School in 1955. In 1959 he gained a BS degree in Commerce, Accounts and Finance from NYU. At the Brooklyn Law School he obtained a JD in 1962, and a Master of Law in 1966. Ed was a Tax attorney at Equitable Life Assurance in Manhattan and later in private practice up until his death. He was a longtime resident of Lake Success, NY before his move to Vallejo, CA. Ed was an accomplished athlete running track in high school and was a semi-finalist in the U.S. Open of Table Tennis in college. He regularly played tennis and later golf. Ed was an enthusiastic amateur photographer in the days of film and slides and a dedicated fisherman from the Atlantic Ocean to the lakes of South Carolina and the Napa River in California. A lifelong Yankee fan, he attended many games including Reggie's three home-run World Series game, as well as the last game at the original Yankee Stadium. A friend of all animals, he especially enjoyed his beloved dogs Ruben & Kippur. Ed is survived by his wife Mildred; son David (Mary) Shapiro of Buffalo, NY; daughter Lisa (Greg) Grobstein of Chestnut Hill, MA; grandchildren Benjamin Grobstein, Jonathan Grobstein, & Alex Shapiro; brother Leonard (Harriet) Shapiro of Calabasas, CA; nieces Laura Sosnowitz & Jodi Merin. Also, his former wife Barbara Young of Boca Raton, FL; brother-in-law, Howard (Maureen) Yue, as well as many cousins. Burial will be at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Glendale (Queens) in a private service.
