Edward M. Spille, 88, of Clermont, FL passed away September 8, 2014. He retired from the U.S. Navy on April 15, 1964 with the rank of Senior Chief Engineman. He received the USN Commendation Medal, USN Good Conduct (seven awards), Philippine Liberation, Japan, & Germany Occupation, National Defense, Atlantic Theatre, Pacific Theatre, European Theatre and World War II Victory Medal. He briefly taught at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. His most memorable mission was serving onboard LSM-17 as 17 year old during WWII. Various positions of past employment included U.S. Missile Base, Cape Kennedy, FL, Pan American World Airways Missile Division as Chief Engineer at Cape Power Plant and Deluge Pumping Stations and Ore Shipping Corp, Burnside, LA in 1966. In 1979, he resigned to set up his own company, Control Consultants and Associates. In 1982, fleets were scrapped due to failing shipping market, so he took a year off to build his house in Pass Christian, MS for retirement. From 1983 to 1992, he took over seven ship fleets of bulk carriers as technical director, and retired as superintendent ship engineer in October 1992. He also served as a Patrol Lieutenant with the Harrison County, MS Sheriff's Department. Hurricane Katrina relocated he and his wife to Summit Greens in Clermont, FL. He is a life member of VFW Post 2095, F&M Capitol Lodge 399, F&M Louisiana Lodge 102, Scottish Rite, Shrine, New Orleans, LA, Society Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Chartered Engineer, Council Engineers, Police Association of New Orleans, National Association of Chiefs of Police, International Intelligence Investigations, American Federation of Police and Navy League of USA. He served as president of the Marine Club in New Orleans, LA. Edward is preceded in death by his parents Edward Ambrose Spille and Lillian Stewart Spille and his daughters, Sandy Spille Andreasen (2013) and Theresa M. Morris Davis (2007). He is survived by four sons, Edward Michael Jr., Jed Stewart, Donald A. and Christopher J. Spille. He married Carolyn C. Crawley on May 5, 1979. Carolyn had four daughters from previous marriage, Mary Margaret Morris Hicks, Elizabeth Ann Morris Nelson, Michele M. Morris, and Theresa M. Morris Davis. Edward was blessed with several grandchildren, Shannon Robin, Brian Spille, Megan Spille, Ashley Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Eric Nelson, Katie Nelson, David Nelson, Ryan Davis, Corey Davis, Jade Jannarone and Steven Spille. He also has one great-grandchild, Michael Robin.

We are saddened to hear of Ed's passing. He was a wonderful intelligent man and we are proud to have had him as our friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with Carolyn and the Spille family. May God comfort and strengthen you during the days ahead.
