EDWARD VERNON
Age 90, of Brownsville (Malden), PA, on Wednesday, February 6, 2002 in Washington, PA. He was born June 27, 1911 in California, PA, a son to Louise and Steven Yablonski. Mr. Yablonski attended Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, VA and went on to graduate from California High School in 1929. Mr. Yablonski owned and operated Redstone Water Company for 50 years. He also worked in coal mines from age 15 until his retirement in 1952 as President of Local 1787 United Mine Workers of America. Mr. Yablonski was a member of the California Lions Club, California Rotary Club, Polish National Alliance, Nemacolin Country Club, and St. Thomas Aquinas Church in California, PA. He was an original board member of Centerville Clinic and a board member of Brownsville Hospital for 28 years until his retirement in 1999. Mr. Yablonski had a passion for the betterment of regional health care. In 2001, he was named Outstanding Citizen by a PA Senate Proclamation. In 1935, he was married to Muriel Brown. He is survived by one son, Terry Yablonski, of Richeyville, PA; eight grandchildren, Edward of McMurray, Gregory of Belle Vernon, Jacqueline Yablonski Herrle of New Kensington, PA, Bradley of Somerset, PA, Jana Yablonski, Leah, Jessica and Carolyn Sustrich, all of Richeyville and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Brown Yablonski in 1992, son, Edward Yablonski, Jr. in 1987, his parents, Louise and Steven Yablonski, and brothers, Leon and Joseph (Jock) Yablonski. Visitation Friday, 2-4 & 7-9pm in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main St. Rt. 40, Beallsville, PA. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, February 9, 9:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in California, PA at 10am. Interment will be in Monongahela Cemetery.
