Nov. 22, 1924 - February 8, 2007
Devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Bud passed away peacefully Thursday evening, February 8, after a lengthy illness. A lifelong love of both participating and coaching sports, he lived life to its fullest and left this life with no regrets.
Born in Colusa, Bud attended San Francisco Schools and graduated from Lowell High in 1942. After one semester at the University of San Francisco where he played basketball, Bud served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He then enrolled at College of the Pacific where he played three years of basketball garnering the Ralph Francis Award as the team's Most Valuable Player in his senior year. Following graduation in 1949, he married the love of his life Marjorie Belle Dabritz and over the next few years earned a teaching credential and Master's. Bud coached both basketball and football at Franklin High from 1951-58, thoroughly enjoying his time assisting George Brumm with the football team that won a city championship in 1956. Bud then moved to Stagg (1961-1969) as the Assistant Football Coach and Head Basketball Coach. His basketball teams won three championships and the football team won two including 1964 where undefeated Stagg and Lodi faced off in the final game of the season in front of an estimated 20,000 fans at Pacific Memorial Stadium. He made his last school switch to Delta from 1969-92 as the Head Tennis Coach and assisted with football for the first nine years. He taught every sport ever offered at Delta and so thoroughly enjoyed seeing people learning a sport. For all his efforts and accomplishments over his forty year teaching and coaching career, he was inducted into the University of Pacific Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995. One's comportment on the court or on the field was far more important than any wins or losses for Bud. He was the ultimate sportsman and the role model that any player could aspire to become.
As much as he loved his sports, they always took a second seat to his love of his wife and partner Margie, and his entire family. Bud is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margie, his children Steve (Susan Reeder) of Carmel Valley and Anita (Jim Davy) of Burbank, five granddaughters, Heather Proulx and Lauren Proulx of New York, Kimberly Davy of Brooklyn, Laura Davy of Berkeley and Aimee Reeder (Beniamino Milioto of Rome, Italy), and his sister Zeph of Sacramento and her extended family. Rocha's Mortuary assisted with the arrangements and a celebration of life service will be held at the Central United Methodist Church on Pacific Avenue in Stockton on Saturday, February 17 at 1:00 p.m. The family asks that any contribution be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Dear Margie,
Bud was always known as "Buddy" in our family. As I was growning up, he was my sports hero. My dad, the other Bud, took me to see Buddy play at UOP 1949-50 and I bragged about him ever since.
The picture in the obit is how my mind always pictures him,at our Easter family get to-gethers. He was always so special to hang around and listen to. I will always remember how he told about getting into the PR profession and then returning to education. An interesting story!!
Our thoughts are with you in your sorrow. Dave and Dee

I'm sorry that Mr. Proulx has passed. He was a fine educator and coach. Imagine he, along with George Brumm and Ernie Marcopulos at Franklin High during the 50's. What a coaching staff! They developed a lot of talent. Unfortunately, opportunities were not as good then, as they are today. I know Mr. Proulx will be missed by many people.

Marge,
Please accept my sincerest condolences. Bud was a wonderful person and a great coach. I will always remember playing for him at Delta, and later playing doubles against him. He was always a gentleman. When he called the ball out, I knew it was out. I know you did an amazing job of caring for him, and of that you should be proud.

Marg and the Proulx family:
I am so sorry to hear that Bud has passed away. He was a wonderful man. As he was to many in practically two generations of Stocktonians, Bud was a coach to me, a mentor, a friend and an associate over the years. He was a fair and even-tempered man who instilled many values in me while we both were at Delta and continued to show concern in my growth and progress and follow my career in sports journalism after I moved on. Bud was a man who truly had a postive impact on many in this community and that will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
