Eileen Alter

Port St. Lucie, FL - Eileen Alter passed away peacefully at Tradition Hospital in the early morning hours of Friday, April 18th. She was 92 years old.

Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Eileen was married to the love of her life, Sanford Alter, for 71 years. They raised their family in Bayville, NJ. In 2000 they moved to Florida, first living in a condo in West Palm Beach for a year until settling in Port Saint Lucie in 2001.

Eileen worked for 26 years for the Berkeley Township school district driving a school bus. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, and did a lot of charity work. She was deeply devoted to her family, and never missed a birthday or holiday. She was a devout member of Saint Barnabas Church in Bayville, NJ and Saint Bernadette Church in Port Saint Lucie, Florida.

She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Crescentia Gentesse, her brother Joseph Gentesse, and her daughter Linda Alter. She is survived by her loving husband Sanford Alter, sister in law Bonnie Gentesse, son Richard Alter (Gloria), daughter Marilyn Lewin (Daniel Pittaro), and son Joseph Alter, grandchildren Jamie Siragusa (Nick), Daniel Lewin (Kristin), Megan Wagner (Justin), Timothy Lewin (Sarah Farnan), and Jessica Lewin. She is also survived by 8 great grand children, plus a large number of nieces and nephews.

A small, private ceremony will be held at Ocean County Memorial Park.
