Eileen Naughton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 10 to Sep. 11, 2021.

Our precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and most of all our best friend, Eileen Jessie Naughton, passed away at the age of 92 on Sept. 9, surrounded by her loving family.

As a mother, she was a selfless person who devoted her life to her family and anyone fortunate to come into her life. Our mother had the ability to transform the simple into the magical regardless of the circumstances and for anyone who entered our home.

Her hobbies were always of a social nature, but playing cards with the Ladies of Leisure in North Scranton or her many bus trips to Atlantic city with old friends were amongst her favorites. Playing games with our family, she taught us to be competitive as she showed no mercy. Our mother loved to travel and explore, and we are fortunate enough to have many memories from our travels with her. The highlight of her winters were her trips to Florida with her sister, Kathryn. She was preceded in death by her husband, our father, John Naughton, the love of her life.

Our family would like to take a few moments to recognize those who touched our mother's heart and aided in her care: Tish Lavelle, caregiver and friend, the staff and residents of Lutherwood Apartments, Dr. Mary McDonnel, Dr. John Prior and Allied Services Hospice.

Surviving are children, Nancy Dolan, Scranton; Diane Brozzetti Santorsa, Scranton; Sharon Calzola (Robert), Madisonville; Edward, Mehoopany; John, North Port, Fla.; Kathleen Faux (Darrell), Falls; Eileen Annemen (Michael), Scranton; Maureen Marcinko (John), Moscow; Thomas (Melissa), Vernon, Conn.; Brian, Philadelphia; and son-in-law, Ronald Handville, Sarasota, Fla.; sisters, Kathryn Phillips, Helen Boyer and Betty Holtz; brothers, Rexford, Robert and Ronald Squier; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by son, Frank Naughton; grandsons, James Brozzetti and Edward Naughton Jr.; sons-in-law, James Dolan and Gerard Santorsa; parents, Rexford and Iola Squier, raised and loved by Bernice Geary; stepmother, Anna Mae Squier; sisters, Dorothy Zebrowski, Doris Sands and Romayne Hallman; brothers, James Squier, Benjamin Squier and Richard Squier.

The funeral will be conducted Monday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of God Church, 316 William St. All wishing to attend are kindly asked to proceed directly to church.

Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Family and friends may pay their respects Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
