Elaine Prentice Flynn

Elaine Prentice Flynn, beloved wife of the Reverend William E. Flynn, Sr., died peacefully after a brief illness at Holmes Regional Hospital in Melbourne, Florida on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

Born in New London, Connecticut, Elaine attended the elementary schools of Waterford and Niantic, Connecticut, was a 1954 graduate of the prestigious Williams Memorial High School in New London, and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in English Literature from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine in 1958.

In her youth, Elaine was a Girl Scout, a Rainbow Girl, and a member of Eastern Star. In 1952, Elaine was one of 4 girls who received the Curved Bar, Girl Scouts' highest achievement. In her adulthood, she went on to become a Scout Leader, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Business & Professional Women's group at her church. Elaine had a charm that won her friends wherever she went.

For most of her adult life, Elaine served alongside Bill at First Congregational Church in East Hartford. As a minister's wife she was a gracious Christian presence who brought compassion, humor, joy, and great love to all that she did.

Elaine taught in the elementary schools of East Hartford, Connecticut. She found great satisfaction in her career as an elementary school teacher, retiring after 32 years.

Her greatest source of joy was her family: husband of 67 years William Flynn, Sr., daughters Peri DiPietro, Florida; Martha Flynn, Tennessee; son William Flynn, Jr. and spouse Donna, Tennessee; and daughter Mary Larson and spouse Richard, Forida.

Grandchildren William Flynn, III and spouse Krystie, Tennessee; Donald Flynn, Connecticut; Katelyn Tougias and spouse Alexander, Massachusetts; Benjamin Larson and fiancée Bailey Lanser, Florida; David Larson, New Hampshire.

Great-granddaughter Chloe Flynn, Connecticut.

Niece Brenda LaJeunesse and spouse Stephen, Florida.

Great-nephew Jacob LaJeunesse, Utah.

Niece Jessica Hunter, Maine; Nephews Matthew Hunter, Maine; David Prentice, and Todd Prentice, Connecticut.

Whether she was known as wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, colleague, or just a passing stranger, Elaine's radiant light never failed to brighten. Our world is darker now that she has gone from it. But we know she is free of pain, and that one of her favorite Scriptures is true for her and will be true at last for us: Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Psalm 30:5.

Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 14, 2024, Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 106 N. Riverside Drive, Indialantic, FL 32903.
