ELAINE CATHERINE CASIMIRE HENDERSON, passed from this life to the next, on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.  She was born on December 1, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Edwin Q. and Margimain D. Casimire. She is proceeded in death by her brother Edwin Q. Casimire, Jr. Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Harold Henderson and sons Harold Henderson Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio, and Brian Henderson, of St. Paul, Minnesota, and a host of nieces, nephews and many other treasured relatives and friends.

Elaine graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans in 1966 with a B.A. in Education. At Xavier she served as senior class secretary. She later earned a Master's Degree in Library Science from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. While at Xavier, Elaine met her true love and life partner Harold and the two were married in 1967. Elaine was a very devoted mother and wife who was always willing to serve others.

You could not have found a sweeter, more caring and considerate person than Elaine. She had a very large family and never missed a birthday or anniversary and always sent a heart-felt surprise. She did the same thing with friends that she had all over the country; Never failing to send wonderful, unique cards, with warm, thoughtful messages inside, written in the most beautiful handwriting you ever saw. The handwriting was so beautiful you almost hated to open the card for fear of ruining the beauty of the envelope. And when Mardi Gras time rolled around in Mobile and old friends came back to town, one of the first stops on the list was Elaine and Harold's house, to get some of that whatever she had on the stove, because it was always good, there was always plenty, and she was always the most welcoming hostess in the world.

She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was not afraid to profess her faith and to give back of her time and talents. Kind, loving, considerate, thoughtful, and serving...that was Elaine. Always looking for ways to serve others. While in California, she diligently served with the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) to promote religious education at St Christopher Church in Sunnymead. She also volunteered a Teacher's Aide at Armada Elementary School. When they relocated to Ohio, she quickly found other ways to serve, joining the Carriage Hill Farm in Dayton, to bring families together with nature and God's creation, the St Peter Catholic Church Food Pantry in Huber Heights, serving the needy, the church's funeral choir, as well as serving as an Usher there.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1400 Joyce Road, Mobile, Alabama 36618 at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will follow at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort at 12:30 p.m.

My sincere condolences uncle Harold and family.
Aunt Elaine was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. I always learned something new in our comfortable, easy conversations something new about the family or just something new in general. I believe our last conversations were about plants and vegetable gardening. We also spoke about a tornado that had blown through Mobile but no damage for you. This was a conversation that was just meant to be, you see I had called on a cell phone that you all had not used for years but that day you had that phone in the car as you surveyed the damage in the city. I was surprised and honored to share the same birthday. Once we found out our birthdays were on December 1st we always exchanged cards and often spoke on that day. Unlike my hallmark cards her cards seem to be beautifully handcrafted. She was one of a kind. I will find a one of a kind plane for my yard in remembrance of aunt Elaine. Love you, miss you my December 1st angel. God bless❤

Dear Harold and family it has taken me a long time to write to you because hearing about your dear Elaine your grieving brought back such vivid memories of when my sweet husband James made his transition from cancer in April 2007.

I know the unimaginable pain you must be feeling right now. You probably feel that it will never cease. The comforting words a dear friend said to me was my loved one was only a thought away. My friend went on to say that our loved one is carried in our hearts and you will know this by the feelings we have in our hearts. When that twinge feels the greatest is when is when they are right there with us. Always remember that Elaine is only a thought away. When you think of her is when she is right there with you.

I wish you and your family peace and comfort.

It is somewhat surreal to witness the passing of persons that one knows through the years, alas, such is the case with Mrs. Elaine C. Henderson. I recall first seeing her during the freshman orientation activities when I served as a BIG BROTHER at Xavier University at the start of my junior year (1962-1963). Though we did not have much contact after that __I couldn't have imagined that she would marry someone from my hometown Mobile. Time passes so swiftly, she & Harold married before I did and I saw them again after I retired and returned to my hometown. Their time together was fruitful and endearing. I wish the family well as we go forward. May the perpetual light of GOD shine upon Elaine O LORD as she lies in repose as with all of the Faithul departed__Requiescat In Pace (R.I.P.) Mrs. Elaine C. Elaine was a classmate of mine at Xavier Prep High School in New Orleans, La. and the 2 years I attended Xavier University. I was saddened to hear of her passing, even though I had not seen her in many years. My memory of her was that she was such a sweet person and everyone loved her. May She Rest In Peace and be in the comfort of the Lord. My condolences go out to her Family.

Life is but a Stopping Place
Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord

Aunt Elaine was one of the kindest, most genuinely sweet people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Her spirit was always cheerful and happy, and I would instantly feel uplifted in her presence. When I would visit her and Uncle Harold, I was always welcomed with open arms and felt at home. We would sit and go through her numerous photo albums and she would enlighten me with her knowledge of family history. When my visit was over and it was time to leave, Aunt Elaine would ALWAYS (without fail) make me a snack basket filled with candy, cookies, sandwiches and drinks, and she NEVER forgot to include my favorites...Cashews and Sweet Tarts! At least 3 - 4 times a year, I would receive random gifts, pictures or cards from Aunt Elaine and she NEVER forgot my Birthday. Aunt Elaine was the epitome of what an Aunt should be, kind, loving and uplifting, I love her and will miss her immensely.

My condolences to Uncle Harold, Harold, Brian and the Casimire family.

Auntie Elaine was more like a mom than a Auntie. She made you feel welcome and at home the first time that you meet her. She loved to speak about current events. And her insights would often give you another way to think about it. I loved being around her at any family event. Because of her kind nature was truly genuine. Dana and I were always excited to come home for the Mardi Gras. Because you were going to enjoy that amazing Cajun cooking. And eat until you couldn't move. Thank you for the life time memories.

Elaine was one the sweetest persons I have ever met. The way that I was related to Elaine was that my husband was Elaine's first cousin (Gilbert Casimire). When we met it was like we had been knowing each other our whole lives. There was never a holiday that she wouldn't send us a card or call. She will be greatly missed.

Aunt Elaine was the epitome of warm, welcoming southern hospitality, and a loving family. Her loving, caring nature made it a pleasure to be with her. Reminiscing with her was pure joy. I remember so many nights looking at family photos, listening to her stories of the "good ole Henderson days" and laughing harder than I had in years. It was the highlight of many of our Mardi Gras visits with her and Uncle Harold (along with those delicious meals you made us! )
Her thoughtfulness was an above and beyond quality she possessed. She was always alert to what was important to people and would send notes, mementos and pictures she came across to brighten and make your day. Aunt Elaine--the best of the best; sweet, thoughtful, caring, warm and loving. A true inspiration of what family is and should be. You have deeply impressed and inspired me. Love you dearly and always,
Your niece, Rayne'

Harold my brother you know how much I love Elaine. She was the sweetest person I have ever met. I am so very sorry for your loss; I can only imagine the pain. I pray that she will rest in holy peace in the arms of Christ and I pray that Christ will give you the peace understanding that only He can give. I hope you can take comfort in knowing that you were always there for Elaine...always. You know that I am here for you whenever you need me 24/7. Butch
