Elaine Marchessault Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2023.
Our loving mother Elaine Caroline (Kijak) Marchessault ascended into Heaven into the loving arms of Jesus on December 13, 2023, at the age of 82. Her laughter, bright smile, and passion to serve her community through her various clubs will be greatly missed. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She became a "MOM" to many and loved by ALL throughout the years and enjoyed traveling and gathering with many friends.

Elaine was born in New Bedford, MA on December 15, 1940, to parents Lillian and Mitchell Kijak. She grew up loving the shore and all her hometown had to offer. After graduating High School, she had a short stint in a teacher's college, but decided to marry and raise a family, traversing from Massachusetts, to New York, and then finally settling in Thousand Oaks, CA in 1970. Upon becoming a single mother with 5 children, she started her career with American Hawaiian Steamship Company of Westlake Village in 1972, quickly climbing into higher positions with her hard work and positive attitude. She retired from California Water Service Company as the Westlake Village District Manager in 2003.

She was very involved in her community and was a proud member of Rotary International of Westlake Village, receiving various awards and served as president in 1999-2000. She was involved in the Community Leaders Association at Cal Lutheran University, where she was the recipient of The Hamm Award in 2000.

She loved to walk her dogs, travel, have lunches with many friends, read, needlepoint, and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She always made sure the needs of her children were taken care of when she could afford it, and that they learned the art of hard work and perseverance.

Elaine was a loving mother, "nana", great grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her 5 children, Michael (Debi) Marchessault, Kathleen (Mike) Reardon, Kevin (Laura) Marchessault, John (Stacie) Marchessault, Michele (Terry) Weyman, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. Brother Richard (JoAnn) Kijak, Nephew Stephan Kijak, Niece Julie Mockabee.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Elaine's name to Alzheimer's Association, or Rotary International.

A celebration of life will be hosted by her family on February 3, 2024 @ 10:00 a.m. located at Lighthouse Church, 3353 Old Conejo Rd. Newbury Park CA. 91320 Reception to follow.

I remember her as a small boy growing up in Wildwood in the early 70's. What a great lady. It's a loss for the entire community.

I could write a whole book of memories I was blessed to have with my Nana. I learned many things from her, how to love your family, how to help others, how to cherish and enjoy the little things because they add up to the big things. I feel so very thankful for her large presence in my life. For being able to look around my home and see her in many ways there with me. Thankful for the stories I now get to share with my children that make me smile, laugh, and bring tears to my eyes. Thankful for the family traditions that I get to pass on to my children.

Nana Thank you for always buying me books for Christmas, for always letting me help walk the dogs, letting me help you with your puzzles, never saying no to coffee ice cream requests in our robes, teaching me how to set a table, letting me help you in the kitchen, hot tub nights, for always finding a reason to celebrate, and about 100 other things. You are one of a kind and I'm so glad you are my Nana.

Here are a few photos I currently have on this computer, my children didn't get to know her personally like I would have loved, but they know her through me and always will.

I always remember the Marchessault house being busy and full of laughter. Elaine´s many children had friends coming and going at all hours. She was a good sport, putting up with the teasing, joking and shenanigans of her boisterous crew. She had a great sense of humor and was quick to laugh. I loved hanging out at the Marchessault´s. Elaine was a hard working mom who set an excellent example for her kids. She will be missed.
