Elaine Ferguson Sorensen 1926 ~2009 Elaine Ferguson Sorensen died unexpectedly on July 24, 2009, just six weeks after the passing of her beloved husband. She was born on February 28, 1926 in Lyman, Wyoming. Following World War II, Elaine met her sweetheart, James Boyd Sorensen Sr., while working at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, UT. They were married on September 15, 1946 and sealed together on December 12, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Elaine supported her husband's military career making a comfortable and loving home for her family in many environments including Peru, Panama, England, Iran, Germany and various locations in the United States. After their military retirement, she was employed by BYU's Department of Technology. Elaine retired from BYU in 1988, after 20 years of dedicated service. Upon retirement, Elaine and James served an LDS proselyting mission in Tampa, Florida. Throughout her life, Elaine served in many capacities in the auxiliaries of the LDS Church. She was a dedicated visiting teacher and was known for her many acts of quiet kindnesses for friends and neighbors. Elaine was loved and admired by 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grand children. She endeared herself to her children and grandchildren by dancing little jigs and singing old fashioned songs. She took great pleasure in organizing family gatherings for birthdays and holidays and was a talented cook. She was known for her keen wit and had a most remarkable sense of humor. Elaine never hesitated to encourage her children and grandchildren to pursue their dreams and many times worked tireless hours on their school/ work papers and projects. She was a devoted wife and mother and will be missed most for the unconditional love she showed to her entire family. They all loved her with the same unfailing devotion. Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, James; parents, Isaac and Daisy Ferguson; brothers, Isaac Ferguson, Jr., Kenneth Ferguson and sisters, Virginia Peasley and Mabel Traver. She is survived by her sisters, Ione Jaramillo, Mary Allred and Mattie Gard; her brother, Julian "Duke" Ferguson and her four favorite children: Sharman Hafen (Mac), James Boyd, Jr. (Marilyn), Phillip Mark (Wendy) and Benjamin J.
