Elaine Marie Swinton

Elaine Marie Swinton, age 76, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on October 16, 2023, at Creekside Cottages Grundy Center of natural causes. She was born on July 31, 1947, in Waverly, Iowa, to Glenn and Dorothy Card. Elaine was a loving and generous woman who touched the lives of everyone she met. Her smile could light up a room, and her kind and compassionate nature endeared her to all.

Elaine had a deep love for her family and cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Swinton, and her grandson, Jared Scott, both of Waterloo, IA. Elaine was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Ameri & Avery Scott. She had a close bond with her brothers, Jim (Robin) Card of Idaho and Gene (Linn) Card of Texas.

Elaine will be reunited in heaven with her daughter, Kendra Kay, her parents, Glenn & Dorothy Card, and brother, Dale Card. She was also preceded in death by her ex-husband, Ronald Alex Swinton (2009).

Elaine attended Shell Rock Elementary for her primary education and graduated from Waverly Shell Rock High School in the class of 1965. She later pursued a career at Bartels Lutheran Home.

Elaine found solace and community in her faith and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She found joy in her hobbies, which included horseback riding, fishing, and card games.

Private cremation services will be held in Elaine's honor. Instead of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Cedar Bend Humane Society, as Elaine had a deep love for animals.

The US Cremation Society in Waterloo, Iowa, assisted family with private cremation arrangements. Her final resting place will be in her daughter Kendra's burial plot at Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock, IA, at a later date.

Elaine Marie (Card) Swinton will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love, presence, and beautiful soul will forever be cherished in our hearts.
