Eland Vaughn Obituary

Eland Vaughn, 78, of Rogersville, died April 18, 2006, after a brief illness.

He was a native of Lauderdale County and lived in the Rogersville area since 1968, after retiring from military service.

Eland served 21 years in the U.S. Army, during which time he was stationed throughout both the world and the United States. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received a Purple Heart for his involvement in the Korean War.

After his retirement from the military, he worked for General Electric in Florence for 20 years and retired in 1988. Eland was an avid gardener and a devoted father and grandfather.

He attended First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Rogersville. He was adored by his family and cherished by his seven grandchildren.

Eland was married for 52 wonderful years to his wife, Kazu Vaughn, whom he met while he was stationed in Tokyo, Japan. They enjoyed their life together, raising their four children as they traveled both the world and the States. Eland and Kaye retired in Rogersville, where they enjoyed spending time with each other and their family.

Eland is survived by his loving wife, Kazu Vaughn, Rogersville; son, Larry (Julia) Vaughn, Athens; daughters, Gail Moskel, Hartselle, June Wilson, Rogersville, and Peggy Perdue, Florence; and grandchildren, Andrea Grisham, Miami, Fla., Katie Moskel, Greensboro, N.C., David Vaughn, Athens, Mark and Eric McInnish, Florence, and Judith and Dylan Perdue, Florence. He was also survived by his sisters, Zodie Belue, Athens, Zadelle Childers, Lexington, and Olene Frost, Birmingham.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 20, from 6-8 p.m. at Rogersville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Rogersville at 1 p.m. Friday, April 21. Burial will be in Civitan Cemetery. Pat Driskell will be officiating.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home in Denton, Texas, or to the Rogersville Rescue Squad, per the previously known wishes of Eland.
