D'Urso, Eleanor Volpe

Eleanor Volpe D'Urso 93, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday April 28, 2016, with her family at her side.

A devoted wife and mother, Eleanor was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Joseph M. D'Urso; daughter Michelle D'Urso; daughter Mary-Ellen Hall; three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her son Joseph D. (Gail) D'Urso of Dover, DE; daughter Denise (Carl) Rainey of Fairport, NY; son-in-law Leonard Hall of Dover, DE; brother Anthony Volpe (Virginia Bagnato) of Philadelphia, PA; sister-in-law Shirley D'Urso of Greenville, PA; grandsons Christopher (Amber) Hall of Dover, DE; Michael (Ellen) Hall of Dover, DE; David D'Urso of New Orleans, LA; granddaughters Laura D'Urso of Vestal; Lydia Rainey of White Plains, NY; Carolyn Rainey Wroblewski of Westland, MI; great-grandchildren Matthew, Michael and Ryan Hall; Ella and Everlee Hall; and Stella and Sophia Wroblewski; beloved cousins, nephews, nieces and special friends. Eleanor was president and salutatorian of the South Philadelphia High School class of 1941. She worked as a legal secretary until she married Joe in 1945, when he returned home from military service. Due to the scarcity of silk, Eleanor had her wedding gown fashioned from Joe's army-issued parachute. After his graduation from Temple University, Joe accepted a job at Link Aviation, and the couple relocated to Binghamton. Here, Eleanor was active in the Ladies Home Bureau and numerous activities that supported her children in Vestal Schools. She and Joe were founding members of the St. Vincent de Paul parish, and were active in the Vincentians. Eleanor enjoyed planning social activities, and was known for her quick wit and her ability to host large groups for dinner on short notice. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends, and never missed acknowledging a birthday or special occasion. Friends may call at the THOMAS J. SHEA Funeral Home Inc. 137 Robinson St. Binghamton, NY from 4 until 7pm on Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated a St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church at 10am on Tuesday. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY. Arrangements are in the care of Albert J. DeMarco.

I remember going to visit Joe and Elanor and their family a lot, as they were great friends of our family. I am terribly to see Elanor is now passed, but know she will be joining everyone in heaven and having a great reunion. God bless

We were very grateful and honored to have Eleanor as our friend. She started out as our patient and became much more than that. We all thought it was God-sent.

Although there will be a tremendous void, our lives have been truly blessed in knowing Eleanor and her wonderful family.

Dear Denise, Your mom was a joy and inspiration to know, with a wonderful sense of humor and generous spirit. I'm so sorry for your loss, but know that she is now with the Lord and her beloved family in heaven. May God give you, and your family, peace and comfort during this time. My best, Eileen

For the loving D'Urso family,
May you find comfort from your memories of Eleanor. I am blessed to have known her and her wonderful, warm, loving family. You all are a testament to a wonderful Mother, she loved you all so very much.
We can only imagine what a wonderful homecoming heaven must have had when she arrived. We all now have another angel to watch over us. It truly was my privilege and honor to have known her.
Rest in peace, my dear friend.
